Yesterday was a red-letter day. Story Chat Vol. II has been over a year in the making. Colleen Chesebro talked me through uploading the manuscripts for the Kindle and print versions of Story Chat Vol. II into the Amazon website.

Wahoo!

About 20 minutes later, the email arrived saying that the new book, Story Chat Vol. II International Short Stories Generating Conversations was live and ready for purchase!

Read it on Kindle or paperback today.

The print version takes up to 72 hours, but two hours ago, the email arrived announcing that the print version is also ready. The link isn’t up yet. I’ll get that out as soon as possible.

I want to thank all the authors who contributed this year. The stories are phenomenal. And they all spent additional time proofreading the proofs! These wonderful people are my writing heroes and super good friends.

Dan Antion, Doug Jacquier, and Gary A. Wilson donated their time to read additional stories that were not part of the original online chats. In addition, they spent hours looking for editing glitches I might have missed and served as consultants to make decisions regarding the book. Thank you so much for your work.

Colleen Chesebro put the finishing touches that make the book look so much more professional than the professionals at Amazon Publishing did last year. Truly, there’s no comparison. Did I mention that she communicates regularly, too?

Through her company, Unicorn Cats Publishing Services, she worked tirelessly for about two months polishing and repolishing the manuscript. Two days ago she bolded colons after the names of people who commented that I had missed! Yes, she’s that detailed! And she is so reasonable that you can’t afford not to use her amazing services!

Finally, I want to thank my husband. He fixed meals, left me alone, took the dog out, cleaned, and read stuff he didn’t really want to read – like back book blurbs while I sat for hours staring at my computer in a writer’s coma. Sorry, he’s not for hire! ๐Ÿ™‚

*********

On a personal note, Vince and I are settling in Visalia for the winter. It’s almost 8:00 am and 50 degrees. We will have time to visit family and friends. Our new crib is convenient, clean, and quiet. The furniture arrives today. YAY!

Vince has his new 65-inch TV set up in front of the card table chair and figured out how to get his favorite local news channel to air. Did you know that a new TV costs less than dinner for four in a restaurant?

Goldie carried her leash down the steps and into her own yard this morning at 5:00 am, trailing me behind her by several steps.

leash dragging behind
Goldie enjoys her new yard
and knows her way back
up the stairs and in the house
without any help from me.

Moji still likes a mid-morning snack of chicken pate and bottled water served at 3:00 am.

Finally, I forgot to bring my external drive, and all my photos and documents stored on it are not available! Yikes! That devastates my photo challenges. So bear with me until I figure this out! ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. Ha.
    No hurry.
I grinned when I saw it and actually scanned the list of contributors to make sure this wasn’t accurate because I’ve been so scattered this last few months I could have missed it.

  2. Hi Marsha,

I’m sorta back. Our new second house in Michigan is almost a done deal so I’m spending some hours today trying to find my way around the new WP editor. They changed things again while I was out and hid several things that I used to depend on.

Anyway, this post is so encouraging, I’m hesitant to call out a possible typo – but now you’ve pressed it into my blood and I can’t help myself. Above you credited some folks and I think you merged two of us by accident. Ref. “Dan Antion, Doug Jacquier, and Gary Roberts donated their time to read additional stories that were not part of the original online chats.” I don’t think you have anyone named Gary Roberts on the team or did I miss this also?

    1. hahaha. you are so right! What’s up with my brain? You and Hugh are both such a help to me and you both use your middle initial that I sometimes type Gary A. Roberts, Hugh A. Roberts, Gary W. Wilson, and Hugh W. Roberts. So I’m not surprised about my goof. It’s not a typo, it’s a brain glitch. I love you both, whatever your names are. I typed Yinglan Zheng as Zinglan twice in the book. Fortunately, she caught it.

Anyway, I’m so sorry, and I’ll fix it this second!

  11. This is terrific news, Marsha. You are an amazing lady for getting Story Chat Vol II out before Christmas. And Colleen is a great lady, too, for all the work she has done to get the book ready. I’ll be ordering my copy today, and it will sit proudly on my bookshelves, where everyone can see it.

Your new place looks fantastic. I hope you all settle in quickly. Like Vince, after a house move, I set up the TV first, followed closely by the computer. I hope the hard drive is with you soon.

I have the bones of a new story for the next season of Story Chat. Can you believe that a television is featured in it? In fact, it’s the centre of the story after some issues I recently had with a TV set. Who would have believed that television issues would spawn a new story?

I hope you’re feeling much better. I wish you and Vince a Happy Thanksgiving next week.

    1. With your imagination, Hugh, a tangerine could take center stage and turn out to be a thriller! LOL In my kitchen that’s the least likely source of a protagonist or antagonist I could see. I can’t wait to read your new story. I just got a fabulous poem from Robbie for next year.

I’m very excited about our new book Hugh. It’s much more diverse than last year’s book in genre, types of chapters, and topics. There are more stories, and I think the quality of all of them is great. Amanda has already signed up for a blog post about it on Dec. 8 or 9. YAY!

Do you and John celebrate Thanksgiving – or harvest in any way? We will celebrate with friends and enjoy all the great-grandkids who range from 1.5 to 5. The grandkids range from 30s to 11, and the kids are all floating around 50. I’ve been friends with them since the oldest kid (54) was 15, so it’s been a while. Vince’s son is 54 and will turn 55 in January! It’s hard to believe! We will get to see him and his wife in early December. YAY!

      1. No, we don’t celebrate Thanksgiving Day or Harvest in the UK, Marsha. The next big holiday in the UK is Christmas Day which, of course, we will be celebrating with family.

It sounds like you have many visitors planned for the upcoming celebrations. I hope it’s a wonderful day for you all and that a lot of fun and laughter are centred-stage.

I’m going to be working on my story over the coming month. I hope to have it ready by Christmas, but I’ll take a later spot in season 3 and allow somebody else to take the plunge for the first story. I don’t want to rush this new story beacuse it’s fast becoming my favorite.

Happy Thanksgiving Day to you and your family, Marsha.

      2. I’m excited that this is becoming your favorite story because yours have all been great! November is a busy month for us because both Vince and I have birthdays this month in addition to Thanksgiving. And you can’t celebrate a birthday just one day a year. We usually end up with two or three dinners each. This year is the hard one because I’m not eating sweets. I’ve cheated a few times, but cancer cells love sugar mor than anything else – or so I’ve read. It’s good for my waistline, too, so I’m not complaining too much. Talk to you before Christmas! ๐Ÿ™‚ xxx

  12. Is Arizona warm in the winter? Perhaps you went to California for the winter not because of the weather.

    1. Phoenix is nice in the winter (70s). Flagstaff is freezing and snowy all winter (20 and below). Prescott (30s-40s and below) is in between the two extremes. Prescott gets several snows each year, some of them pretty extensive. We had the first dusting the day after we left! Visalia, CA is cold, too, but no snow – maybe every 40 years or so. We should get some of the rain from the cyclone bomb by tomorrow. We’ll see. Are you guys doing ok?

      1. I admire people go to different part of the States (world) in different seasons for comfort. We always have responsibilities and don’t have the luxery of doing so. I had an after school tutoring business in Los Angeles before we moved. After we moved, we now have the grandkids. We plan our activities around the responsibilities.
Terri asked me about the bomb cyclone, but we haven’t heard anything in Portland yet. There isn’t heavy rain or wind in our area.

        Liked by 1 person

      2. I’m glad you haven’t suffered any bomb scares! LOL We haven’t in CA either.

You are blessed with grandkids and I agree that does come with added responsibilities. We don’t have any. This is sort of an experiment as to whether we want to live back in CA and be close to his son – no grandkids, though.

Our responsibilities are to older people and pets. AND we are getting older. We have to think about his sister if we move permanently, and that’s a major move if we decide to come back. We can be away from her for a few months – and we will go back and forth even at that, but we can’t leave her on her own in AZ if we move to CA. She has low income housing there, and may not be able to find that benefit here which puts the financial responsibility on us.

My other concern is my younger brother, in Oregon who lost his wife this year. He is lots easier to reach by car from CA than from AZ, and he wants us to move back here. Vince’s brother is only about three hours from here, too. So yes, responsibilities are important and figure heavily into the picture. Ours just aren’t quite as cute! LOL (don’t tell our siblings!)

        Liked by 1 person

      3. We’re going to California to see my husband’s family for Thanksgiving. This is now our annual trip. Before moving, we tried to come to Portland to see the grandkids every six weeks or two months. It was before my husband’s mom was in Alzheimer’s home. After she passed away, he was ready to move. My sister and all of Lynton’s siblings are good in health and finances. They all have grown children.

It’s good that you care for your siblings. Eventually you want to love close to his son to have a younger person look out for you. Think about that.
