Today is February 16th, and I seriously hoped I wouldn’t have any NEW pictures to post for Terri’s Sunday Stills frosty challenge this week, not that I have anything against Frosty Ice Cream.

Even though the sun is bright and warm, the temperatures haven’t gotten the memo. So while the sun shines on it, the snow busies itself melting.

The melted water says, “Enough of this, I’m going back into my frozen cocoon.”

And that is the Arizona legend of how the melting process was stopped cold.

Finally, David, the Skeptic’s Kaddish invites us to join this week’s W3 challenge posed by Tanmay Philip which is to write a Puente poem.

  1. Write a “Puente” poem;
  2. The middle stanza should contain the title of a song;
    • You can add more words to the middle stanza if you wish.
  3. The form has three stanzas with the first and third having an equal number of lines and the middle stanza having only one line which acts as a bridge (puente) between the first and third stanza. The first and third stanzas convey a related but different element or feeling, as though they were two adjacent territories. The number of lines in the first and third stanzas is the writer’s choice as is the choice of whether to write it in free verse or rhyme.
  4. The center line is delineated by a tilde (~) and has ‘double duty’. It functions as the ending for the last line of the first stanza AND as the beginning for the first line of the third stanza. It shares ownership with these two lines and consequently bridges the first and third stanzas.
Heaven from the long cold days
Sunshine not Midwest's chilling haze
Arizona winks its blinding rays

~"And one thought crystallizes like an icy blast - Let It Go."~

Rumination of escaping strays
My longing heart betrays
Could her whining just be a phase?

    Gorgeous frostiness. In my book, there are few things prettier or more photogenic!! I love snow. And your bitmoji/emoji/avatar is adorable. I snorted with laughter when I saw her.

      Thanks, Donna. Sedona might be the Queen of Arizona. The Grand Canyon is spectacular, but there is an elegance to Sedona that is more approachable. 🙂 I don’t worry about falling off of Sedona. Maybe off Bell Rock…

    HI Marsha, amazing pictures. We don’t get anything like this here in South Africa. We hardly ever even get frost.

    I escaped the northeast in 2019 and never looked back. I hate snow and ice.

      I escaped when I was 15 and then 2 years ago we moved to Prescott, which is lovely most of the time, but this year has been immensely snowy. We all excuse it because it brings water into our depleted water system.

    I do love snowy wintry scenes. I have not had the privilege of being in many as you can imagine Singapore does not afford such opportunity, nor have I travelled to places which do. I am amazed that AZ gets cold enough!!!

      AZ is a land of many climates, Ju-Lyn. In the norther region, are the ski slopes. In the central and southern valley are the blazing deserts. We are in between the two. At 5,300 feet above sea level, we are in the mountains, but not extremely high mountains. Vince said when he was convincing me to move that it was high desert, but it is more like high foothills that don’t get much rain. It’s very different from both the north and the south and very beautiful.

          It is an amazing place. It is just as diverse as California yet very different, and so colorful.

    As you well know, Marsha, I do love snow and winter, although both don’t really exist in our part of the state. Have to travel north to experience one or both. 🙂 Lovely shots and poem.

    The ice and snow are pretty but I don’t want any of them thank you. We have a few more days on the hot Caribbean coast of Colombia and after that, when we get home, I’m hoping the English spring will be just around the corner.

      I’d rather be where you are. Snow is much prettier in pictures than it is in real life. There are dirty clumps of snow all over most of the sidewalks and along the roads. It’s not gorgeous most of the time!

      Joy, I would love to be retired in Spain where there is rarely any snow. That sounds lovely. I want to visit there some day. Meanwhile, I’ll pile on another blanket. I found a wonderfully warm/HOT duvet in my closet yesterday. Have a wonderful weekend, my friend. 🙂

      Blame California, not Arizona for the snow! While I was there they had so much rain. By the time I got home it had started to filter across the mountains to us – and them BAM! It slapped our faces with snow!

    So that is Arizona’s legend of snow melting? LOL! Beautiful frosty shots, Marsha! Your complicated explanation of Puente was well demonstrated in your poem. Let it Go indeed! What will we do about Miss Winter? Just wait it out. All this sun and “warm” 45F temps is giving us a sense of a false spring. We may still get more snow next week! Hans just wiped off the last of the snow that covered most of his grill. He’s so happy AND the sun is shining. Speaking of spring, Donna has her fingers crossed for a super bloom–wouldn’t that be awesome if it happened while I was there? Love your avatar with her tongue stuck to the pole!

      It is not the Arizona legend. I guess I shouldn’t claim that, LOL. I am also claiming to be an Arizonian. She mentioned something about a caravan through the blooms. We will have to explore that as the time approaches. I’m soooooooooooo excited for your visit! 🙂
