It’s fun to go retro and rediscover black-and-white photography. Cee Neuner gives us that opportunity each week with a different theme.
I’m about to turn over a new leaf – AGAIN! This photo of a wooden ladder was in my dad’s collection. He was quite the amateur photographer in his day, and I helped him develop many of them. Probably not this one, though! 🙂
Fast forward to 1980. We accompanied our friends the Loomis’ to their family home (this wasn’t it) in Wisconsin. It wasn’t the shack behind it either! Our dog, Allicks loved being on a farm.
Speaking of shacks, we watched an interesting movie last night starring Diane Keaton called Hamstead. It’s based on the life of a homeless man, Harry Hallows who built a shack in a park in Hamstead Heath. A company tried to evict him, and you really have to watch it or read Wikipedia to find out what happened.
Now we fast forward to the near present – to our trip, last April/May in California. The beautiful tulip gardens had this room to meditate. I remember sitting in wooden chairs. They didn’t put me in a meditative mood. Do you think these people are meditating or pretending to meditate while just being quiet?
I do like the wooden beams. They make a nice contrast to the white walls.
Then Memorial Day came. The large homes along Senator’s Highway decorate for every season. These two wooden benches don’t look any more comfortable than the meditation chairs. But then no one is sitting in them pretending that they are. 🙂 They are extremely beautiful, though.
Finally, my dentist’s office, which he built himself. The wood is from an original tree in the downtown area, one of the last that was cut down to make room for the growth of Prescott. His family was one of the first Prescott residents. He runs his dental practice along with his dad’s and his son’s practices. It’s a fascinating place to see inside and out.
Happy New Year everyone. Hope your is healthy, happy, prosperous, and most of all, compelling.
