December 21: Christmas, Hanukkah, or Winter Solstice

Writerโ€™s Quotes Wednesdays

We were so lucky this year that snow fell just before Christmas getting us into the holiday mood. Two weeks ago on WQW, I shared a winter wonderland. The good news is that two weeks ago I had to use archived pictures, and this week, I can show you what the weather is like here in Prescott, AZ.

โ€œHow many lessons of faith and beauty we should lose, if there were no winter in our year.โ€

Logo Contest

Do you love quotes? Do you enjoy designing? WQW Writer’s Quotes Wednesdays is changing to WQ Wednesday Quotes in 2023. Check out the 2023 WQ Logo Designing Contest.

This year we had two worthy entries for next year’s widget or logo shown in the order received. Some people post the image in their sidebar to show that they participate in a specific challenge. Others post them on every post. Some do both and others do neither.

Thank you to two amazing bloggers, Donna Connolly at Retirement Reflections and Sadje at Keep It Alive for taking the time to submit these two excellent logos. I’ll let you know who designed which logo will be our next logo on January 7th. I love them both, so I’m NEED your help choosing!

Voting Ends on January 4th

My Take on a Wintery Christmas

The other day Puppy Girl and I put on our heavy coats and went outside to make yellow snow. These are some of the wonderful views we had around our home.

โ€œThe Christians stole the winter solstice from the pagans, and capitalism stole it from the Christians.โ€

George Monbiot

โ€œIn a way Winter is the real Spring โ€“ the time when the inner things happen, the resurgence of nature.โ€

Christmas Shopping

You will, no doubt notice that I’m not showing you my deeper self where all the resurgence is happening. I love blogs where people say deep, cool stuff. I’ve come to the conclusion that you have to have a deep, cool mind in order to do that. So, with me, you get shop chatter.

Vince and I don’t have a lot of shopping left to do, so we strolled at a comfortable pace through the downtown shops around Courthouse Square. These shops reflect the true western spirit of Native Americans, cowboys, and rodeos in their decorations for Christmas as well as most of their merchandise.

You won’t see a store window like this in Lisbon or London, Toronto, or Toowoomba. It is typically Prescott, AZ.
Need a gift bag? I thought this was cute.
Speaking of wine, isn’t this a stunning wine rack? If anyone wants to get this for me… It also works well for Mama Cormier’s Thursday Trio challenge.
This is a cute building with lots of shops, but something was missing. Aha, more trios!
That explained the empty area. There wasn’t even a chair for Santa, so maybe he’s been at the NP for the entire season. There’s a Thursday Door, wouldn’t you say?
Wait, I see him through my camera lens. He seems beary preoccupied.

โ€œPerhaps I am a bear, or some hibernating animal underneath, for the instinct to be half asleep all winter is so strong in me.โ€

Anne Morrow Lindburg

Finally, I have a few ornaments you might enjoy.

I love bears.
A little something to remember your trip to Prescott. Yes, bear with me – one more bear.
Yes, we also love tacos and taco trucks here in Prescott, too.
Here’s my truck and trailer – or my wanna-be T & T and some more doors.
The Chamber of Commerce Marsha coming out in these ornaments.
A different shop window and another Thursday Trio for Mama Cormier and another red truck for me.
I wonder which house has the best cookies?

You will have to visit sometime. It’s right on your way to somewhere, especially if you fly. You can stopover at Phoenix and fly further east from here. I had never flown in and out of two airports until I came to Portland in September to see all of you.

The snow is so pretty – you know how much I love seeing snow photos. And you’re right, you won’t see that Christmas scene here in Toowoomba. It’s warm and sunny and 26C today, and we’re looking forward to a lovely summery Christmas Day in Brisbane with our dear little boy.

I suspect you do my share of Christmas shopping, Marsha. I’m not good at it. Butterfly brain! Inspiration always dawns late then I’m in a mad panic. We buy very little and are away from home with only hand luggage- that doesn’t give a lot of scope! Have a fabulous time…
