My Take on Holiday Treats
My sister-in-law, Cindy loves to bake. The other day she started at 10:00 in the morning and finished MOPPING THE FLOOR at 7:00 pm. How did I get so lucky? She gave me some cookies to serve my guests for dinner earlier this week. These two cookies were especially great.
Cindy substituted skittles and a bit of white frosting for the cinnamon hots that the recipe called for. That was an unexpected bonus.
I got this tidbit from Cindy Georgakas. Did you know that STRESSED spelled backward spells DESSERTS?
““Christmas is like candy; it slowly melts in your mouth sweetening every taste bud, making you wish it could last forever.”
– Richelle E. Goodrich”
Even though I got this picture and recipe from Pinterest, my grandmother made this every Christmas and I think I ate most of it.
I loved creamed corn so much that I put a can of it in a chocolate cake mix once and baked it. I probably told you how that came out. In my defense, I was only 43.
Grandma’s recipe, like this one by the Unsophisticook recipe, had 6 items: canned whole kernel corn, canned creamed corn, sugar, flour, eggs, and butter, plus a touch of salt and pepper. I think I used brown sugar rather than white. I may have added mustard powder – don’t ask me why. One recipe called for a package of cornbread. That would be good but not as pudding-like.
Merry Christmas and happy holidays to all. What are your favorite holiday foods?
