LAST WEEK’S FABULOUS BLOGGERS

Last week for PPAC #63 “A Day of Mourning,” I had fun responses from all of you. With all the other challenges, even public and street art, I thank all the bloggers who participate in the Photographing Public Art Challenge. Please honor these bloggers with your visits this week.

IT’S EASY TO PLAY ALONG WITH #PPAC

  • There is no weekly theme even though my post has a theme with murals, statues, fountains, scrap art, graffiti, store windows, seasonal displays, car or art shows, artistic construction, or even artistic neighborhood decor. Photograph the public art that is available to you.
  • Art should be freely visible from a public street, freeway, or walkway or inside a publicly accessed building like a library. If you pay, it’s not public.
  • Photographers should have free access of use for their photos – no copyrights by the artists.
  • The challenge starts every Friday at 9:00 a.m. Phoenix Time and it ends on Thursday at noon.
  • Write a post on your blog, publish it, and include a link back to my weekly post not my page preferably in a comment. Sometimes pingbacks are missed. See how to create pingbacks here
  • Take time to visit other PPAC participants throughout the week. I recommend visiting at least two or three other participants in the community and leaving them a comment.
  • Have fun! Art is to be enjoyed!

For More Ideas about PPAC…

These early-bird participants (posted by Wednesday at noon) might give you some great ideas about something you’ve never thought about as public art or how to photograph it.

My Choices for PPAC #64 A Day to Celebrate Heroes

Last week the United States honored the fallen heroes and those who lost loved ones on 9-11-2001. Prescott, AZ honors its own heroes, 19 firefighters killed in the Yarnell Fire on 6-30-2013. Vince, Cindy, and I were having a sandwich across the street. In the two years, we lived here, we had never seen this mural before. So Vince and I returned yesterday after my wonderful blogger meetup and I took pictures while he had the car washed. Win-Win!

Introductory mural sign: “19 Heroes, Prescott, AZ, Granite Mountain, Hotshots Yarnell Fire, Last alarm 6-30-2013, Ashcraft, Caldwell, Carter, Deford, MacKenzie, Marsh, McKee, Misner, Norris, Parker, Percin, Rose, Steed, Thurston, Turbyfill, Warneke, Whitted, Woyjeck, Zuppiger”

We were so impressed by the realism in this mural. It looked like part of the surrounding area from a distance especially.

I love the reflection on the hood and the expression on the firefighter’s face. So willing to serve even though it cost them everything.

Hero in Meyer, AZ

Yavapai County Sheriff’s say Sgt. Richard Lopez, 51, was trying to apprehend a suspect after a theft call when he was shot in a Cordes Lakes neighborhood. A good man was lost in protecting the community.

The Cellar Creekside, where we had our blogger meetup, had these mourning black and blue striped American flags made to honor the fallen hero in the small town of Meyer, AZ. They raised over $3,000 to help out the family as well.

Blogger Meetup

Our AZ Blogger Meetup in Meyer, AZ was the first in the Prescott area, about halfway between Phoenix and Flagstaff. The perfect weather allowed for a tour of the entire Creekside Resort campus. I’ll share more in a later blog post.

  1. The first mural fooled me! I thought “what a cute bus! Where could I find some mint buses.” Was the Yarnell fire the largest in Arizona?

    1. I’m not sure, if Yarnell was the largest fire, but 19 firefighters died fighting it, so it was the largest loss of life. I didn’t live here then, but we still commemorate the 19 every year on the anniversary of the fire by adding 19 next to the P on the hill for Prescott.

  5. The murals really are beautiful and look realistic. I love that they even included a reflection on the hood as you pointed out. Always appreciate how public art often honors local history that shouldn’t be forgotten like this.

      1. I’ll be going away myself immediately after so the timing wouldn’t be great for me to respond to comments and other people’s posts. But if you’re OK to do most of the leg-work on that, especially comments that come in after the weekend (we go away on the Monday) then yes, I could probably act as host 🙂 Do you want to send me an email to discuss??

    1. I was just telling Yvette what a great time we had. It was so fun getting to know you all better. The last time I got to know Rob but you were a little farther away to chat. Even though the seating wasn’t super close at Creekside, it was so quiet and we had more of a closed conversation without everyone talking at the same time. Different dynamics. All great, but different. Each time we meet it will be a new opportunity. I hope we have many more wonderful times together. Your friend and mother are lovely. Just so much fun! I’m looking forward to the next field trip.
