As I try to look for public art that compliments other photo challenges, I found that I could do all three of Cee’s challenges. When I wrote the first words of the title, they sounded almost like wedding vows. It took will power not to add, “In sickness and in health.” But all my public art is healthy today except one – which died.

Sorry I’m late today. Nutter Butter is sick. You know how it is when you have a sick pet or child – life stops and revolves around them. Please send kind thoughts and prayers his way today.

LAST WEEK’S FABULOUS BLOGGERS

Last week for PPAC #60, I had fun responses from all of you. With all the other challenges, even public and street art, I thank all the bloggers who participate in the Photographing Public Art Challenge. Please honor these bloggers with your visits this week.

IT’S EASY TO PLAY ALONG WITH #PPAC

  • There is no weekly theme even though my post has a theme with murals, statues, fountains, scrap art, graffiti, store windows, seasonal displays, car or art shows, artistic construction, or even artistic neighborhood decor. Photograph the public art that is available to you.
  • Art should be freely visible from a public street, freeway, or walkway or inside a publicly accessed building like a library. If you pay, it’s not public.
  • Photographers should have free access of use for their photos – no copyrights by the artists.
  • The challenge starts every Friday at 9:00 a.m. Phoenix Time and it ends on Thursday at noon.
  • Write a post on your blog, publish it, and include a link back to my weekly post not my page preferably in a comment. Sometimes pingbacks are missed. See how to create pingbacks here
  • Take time to visit other PPAC participants throughout the week. I recommend visiting at least two or three other participants in the community and leaving them a comment.
  • Have fun! Art is to be enjoyed!

For More Ideas about PPAC…

These early-bird participants (posted by Wednesday at noon) might give you some great ideas about something you’ve never thought about as public art or how to photograph it.

My Choices for PPAC #61 Public Art in Black and White

CBWC

To go with Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge this week, I found lots of hot and cold public art. For more hot art in color PPAC #47 featured public art in Palm Desert.

Celler Creekside restaurant in Meyer, AZ takes us to the past, displaying summer toys. The trunk qualifies this photo for Cee’s Midweek Madness Challenge, too. A bonus point for me. YAY!
Prescott Christmas season rings in cold, but the only snow on this date lit up the night. Aha, trunks, angels, and benches in this photo too. Cha-ching! Score! CMMC. I do love winning!
The tree lights in the background look almost like stars.
Maui Hawaii stays perpetually hot, a welcome respite from cold winters on the continent. If only I knew what the statue is on the bow of the boat. Does anyone know?

Art with an N in the middle of the word.

CMMC

A handle on a rusty piece of art also at Cellar Creekside in Meyer, AZ. You can see the edge of the holy seat from last week’s PPAC #60 Reflections in Shady Art. You can also see the shadow of the handle.

Art in Two Colors

CFFC

Not pie in the sky but Car in the Sky in Williams, AZ. It’s a bit of a stretch for this BASICALLY two-color challenge with the white pole and chrome wheels. It’s a bit of a neck stretch to see it, too. 🙂
This dinosaur footprint led the way into the Mesa, AZ Museum of Natural History. Bigger dinosaur examples of public art are featured in PPAC #20 Dinosaurs Roaming the Streets of Mesa. I think he had three toes so he could qualify for Mama Cormier’s Thursday Trio Challenge.
This Chicago foot, which includes half men and women walking around like pedestrian signs in Queensland, AU, was featured in a Square Odds Challenge with his friends. This is a beautiful example of monochromatic two tones.
Statue of Liberty in Las Vegas atop the New York New York Casino. I couldn’t crop this to get out the concrete stand without distorting her. For more pictures of her and other female art check out PPAC #41 Women in Art.
From this angle, the Statue of Liberty looks like she might have just finished running a marathon.

Here Comes the Sun – Lens Artist Weekly Photo

The street sign of the Van Gough Art Exhibit in Scottsdale – great show, by the way. Now I think they have one for Monet as well.
A sunny August day in 2021, Acker Park Loo also featured in PPAC #11.
Winter reflection on the timeline of Prescott history in Courthouse Square. Featured in PPAC 38.

  10. Wishing Nutter Butter a speedy recovery and interesting selection as always, Marsha. The Christmas illuminations look dreamy in black and white. I really like the glow around the snowflake-shaped lights.

I don’t know what the sculpture in Hawaii is, but it somehow looks both traditional and futuristic to me… probably because the eyes remind me of motorcycle lights and overall, it looks like a vehicle in sci-fi fantasy.

    1. Great description. It would make a great hood ornament on any sci fi vehicle.

  16. Wow, you’ve certainly packed this post with a variety of art! That giant snowflake works well in B&W, and I’m intrigued by the feet in Chicago :

I’ve cheated just a tad this week as we had to pay for parking to see these, but they would have been free if we’d taken the bus! https://www.toonsarah-travels.blog/radical-horizons-the-art-of-burning-man-at-chatsworth/

      1. No hurry, it’s not going anywhere! Actually, that’s not strictly true as it disappeared altogether for a couple of hours this afternoon – maintenance work at Bluehost, apparently! Anyway it’s OK now and will be there whenever you have a minute – no rush 😀

        1. Ah, you have Blue Host. That may be the reason I can’t sign in to WordPress when commenting. I don’t have a WordPress.org account any longer.

          Liked by 1 person

          1. That’s odd. The sign-in issue wasn’t down to Bluehost, it was a WordPress glitch. They’ve said it’s sorted now and other people have managed to comment OK so I’m not sure why you still can’t?
