Today I’m combining my Photographing Public Art Challenge with Cee’s Black and White Challenge – busy with a purpose. I doubt that my pictures are purposeful except for your enjoyment. You can let me know. Enjoy your week. 🙂

LAST WEEK’S FABULOUS BLOGGERS
Last week for PPAC #57, I had fun responses from all of you. With all the other challenges, even public and street art, I thank all the bloggers who participate in the Photographing Public Art Challenge. Please honor these bloggers with your visits this week.

IT’S EASY TO PLAY ALONG WITH #PPAC
- There is no weekly theme even though my post has a theme with murals, statues, fountains, scrap art, graffiti, store windows, seasonal displays, car or art shows, artistic construction, or even artistic neighborhood decor. Photograph the public art that is available to you.
- Art should be freely visible from a public street, freeway, or walkway or inside a publicly accessed building like a library. If you pay, it’s not public.
- Photographers should have free access of use for their photos – no copyrights by the artists.
- The challenge starts every Friday at 9:00 a.m. Phoenix Time and it ends on Thursday at noon.
- Write a post on your blog, publish it, and include a link back to my weekly post not my page preferably in a comment. Sometimes pingbacks are missed. See how to create pingbacks here.
- Take time to visit other PPAC participants throughout the week. I recommend visiting at least two or three other participants in the community and leaving them a comment.
- Have fun! Art is to be enjoyed!
For More Ideas about PPAC…
These early-bird participants (posted by Wednesday at noon) might give you some great ideas about something you’ve never thought about as public art or how to photograph it.

My Choices for PPAC #58 Busy Art in Black, White, and Color
In about six weeks several Arizona bloggers are meeting up at a restaurant called Cellar Creekside on Hwy 69 to Prescott – right off Hwy 17, which runs between Flagstaff and Tucson.
The restaurant/hotel had some busy and rustic public art. As Cee mentioned, black and white pictures are best if there is a lot of contrast. Some pieces of these public art displays are in high contrast and some are not.

My favorite piece of public art wasn’t the rusty one, but the bear. I’ve probably told you my bear story. Tofino had a great bear picture with a story in his post I read today. My adventure happened in Sequoia National Park. I felt car sick, so my husband stopped the car so I could walk and let my tummy rest from the curvy road. I said I’d meet him at the next scenic point.
I had walked about halfway to our designated meetup when I saw Mama Bear and her cub walking toward me on the other side of the road. Since I wasn’t Goldilocks, I pretended she was a big dog and looked the other way to ignore her. I whispered, “I didn’t try out your bed, so please go away.”
It worked. She passed me by without crossing over to tell me what she thought of me invading her home territory.
Cellar Creekside bear was much less scary.

So, I walked around the bear and shot it (not with a gun) from a different angle. This one is my favorite.

A Few Miscellaneous Busy Photos from Other Places
- Joining in Cee’s Black and White Challenge – busy, purposeful photos.
- And Thursday Trios, with a repeat picture from last week only in infrared. When I turned on that filter in Bridge, the light lit up. So cool! I loved the dizzy Twilight Zone bowls. If I didn’t have more junk that I can use now, I would have bought them.

I love your bear story and how you walk through life with a smile or a laugh. I do know that the meeting of the mama and babies probably wasn’t funny at the time, but sure is fun now. It will be a fun gathering of bloggers in a few weeks.

Thanks, Donna. It is going to be fun. I hope we can make it a regular event. I look forward to cooler weather in the South Valley. 🙂

That bear is really good, and I enjoyed your accompanying bear story! Are you moving PPAC from Friday to mid-week? That would be good, the weekends are more crowded with challenges 😀

My comment did not register here. I hope you got it. I wasn’t trying to ignore you! For now PPAC is staying where it is, though. I will reassess at the end of the year.

The restaurant really is full of cool details to photograph! I enjoyed the focus on each subject with interesting texture, they look interesting in black and white.
Another nerve-racking tale from your travel. I have never run into bears myself, but some Japanese mountains and national parks have brown bears and while I’m curious about how they look in the wild, I prefer not meeting them, haha.

When I first moved here, I thought there wasn’t much. As I’ve become more familiar with my surrounding, I’ve discovered so much more. I’m glad you enjoyed the image compare feature, Ju-Lyn. Word Press has so many tools to help us share media on our posts and make them more interesting.

Thanks, Ju-Lyn. We are not traveling as much as I used to when I was working. So it’s fun discovering the beauty in what is nearby.

The man who painted this is a talented artist now employed by Peterborough council to paint street art.

He is very talented, Phil. It boggles my mind that someone could paint something that clearly on corrugated metal walls.

Getting up close and personal with a bear. Some cool PPAC, for sure. I like the B&W wagon. Of course, I’m a fan of black-and-white anyway. Nice work, Marsha!
