LAST WEEK’S FABULOUS BLOGGERS

Last week for PPAC #49, I had fun responses from all of you. With all the other challenges, even public art, I thank all the bloggers who participate in PPAC. Please honor these bloggers with your visits this week. I am trying something new this week both with WQW and PPAC. I’m using what Natalie the Explorer uses, an InLinkz link. Let me know how you like it.

IT’S EASY TO PLAY ALONG WITH #PPAC

  • There is no weekly theme even though my post has a theme with murals, statues, fountains, scrap art, graffiti, store windows, seasonal displays, car or art shows, artistic construction, or even artistic neighborhood decor. Photograph the public art that is available to you.
  • Art should be freely visible from a public street, freeway, or walkway or inside a publicly accessed building like a library. If you pay, it’s not public.
  • Photographers should have free access of use for their photos – no copyrights by the artists.
  • The challenge starts every Friday at 9:00 a.m. Phoenix Time and it ends on Thursday at noon.
  • Write a post on your blog, publish it, and include a link back to my weekly post not my page preferably in a comment. Sometimes pingbacks are missed. See how to create pingbacks here
  • Take time to visit other PPAC participants throughout the week. I recommend visiting at least two or three other participants in the community and leaving them a comment.
  • Have fun! Art is to be enjoyed!

For More Ideas about PPAC…

These early-bird participants might give you some great ideas about something you’ve never thought about as public art or how to photograph it.

My Choices for PPAC #50 Public Art in Kauai

When we owned a timeshare, we traveled more frequently to Hawaii. So many of the photos lie unused in my digital archives. I thought I’d share a few with you today.

“Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep.”

Scott Adams

A fence in Kauai on Moi Road

I’m not sure what category this fence droops into. It is not a statue or a relief, but on closer inspection, it is something.

It has aspects of relief but seems meaningless. Nonetheless, it attracted our attention.

Relief sculpture is a complex art form that combines many features of the two-dimensional pictorial arts and the three-dimensional sculptural arts. On the one hand, a relief, like a picture, is dependent on a supporting surface, and its composition must be extended in a plane in order to be visible.”

More art through the cement curtain

What do you think? Does this meet the standard of art or is it a mistake?

More Metal Art in Kauai

Vince, Cindy and I attended a luau and gracing the landscape were many objects of public art. Like California, old farm implements often became yard art. I am a fan of old implements arranged artistically as yard art. How do you feel about it?

The object of art is not to reproduce reality, but to create a reality of the same intensity.

Alberto Giacometti
Not exactly a farm implement, but definitely Hawaii.
“Here’s looking at you, kid.”
This looks like a giant spider to me. I love the eyes and eyebrows.
This one just looks like a plow to me. What do you think?

If you are ever in Kauai be sure to go to the LUAU KALAMAKU.  You won’t regret it.  It’s the highlight of our trip.  I hope you enjoyed the brief look at a luau in Kauai.  🙂

Ongoing on Always Write

  • 21 Flash Fiction Challenge Entries – Spinoff May’s Story Chat
  • June Story Chat “The Backpack” by Aimer Boyz coming Tuesday, June 7.
  • WQW #20– The only rule is to have at least one quote in your post about the topic. Remember a song can be a quote, too. Then just post either a story, poem, or pictures that tie into and respond to your quote or quotes.

Now it’s your turn.

What’s your PPAC theme this week? Are you into statues or sculptures (and what’s the difference anyway?) Did you find some cool murals? Did you go on a trip or a walk around your hometown and grab a bunch of different kinds of public art? I can’t wait to see it.

Do you like the link party?

  14. The fence (or is it more of a wall?) is interesting and I think is definitely intended to be decorative even if it isn’t actually art!

I have a pair of sculptures for you today: https://www.toonsarah-travels.blog/the-conversation-piece-and-the-eye/. I’m not sure how the link party really works but I’ll post my link there too 🙂
