LAST WEEK’S FABULOUS BLOGGERS

Last week for PPAC #46, I had fun responses from all of you. Thank you to all the bloggers who participated this week. Please honor them with your visits this week.

IT’S EASY TO PLAY ALONG WITH #PPAC

  • There is no weekly theme even though my post has a theme with murals, statues, fountains, scrap art, graffiti, store windows, seasonal displays, car or art shows, artistic construction, or even artistic neighborhood decor. Photograph the public art that is available to you.
  • Art should be freely visible from a public street, freeway, or walkway or inside a publicly accessed building like a library. If you pay, it’s not public.
  • Photographers should have free access of use for their photos – no copyrights by the artists.
  • The challenge starts every Friday at 9:00 a.m. Phoenix Time and it ends on Thursday at noon.
  • Write a post on your blog, publish it, and include a link back to my weekly post not my page preferably in a comment. Sometimes pingbacks are missed. See how to create pingbacks here
  • Take time to visit other PPAC participants throughout the week. I recommend visiting at least two or three other participants in the community and leaving them a comment.
  • Have fun! Art is to be enjoyed!

For More Ideas about PPAC…

These early-bird participants might give you some great ideas about something you’ve never thought about as public art or how to photograph it.

My Choices for PPAC #47 Hot Art in Palm Desert

If you want a playground for finding public art to photograph, Palm Desert is the place to go. (but maybe not in May). As the temperature soared toward 105 F/40.56 C, my friend Carolyn drove me down palm-lined Paseo Drive.

“It’s like Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills.”

That meant little to me, but I gather it meant swanky stores on a palm-lined boulevard. The center divider had trees and public art every few feet. Unfortunately, I had a very hard time snapping pictures as we drove because we had to move with traffic and the center divider was on the driver’s side of the car.

Since it was over 100 degrees and parking was limited, I declined her generous offer to park and walk along and take pictures. Time to go back another day.

I wanted to pull off at this park, though. These are terrible pictures of some interesting artwork, including a nudist statue sunning itself on the hot cement.

At one point we stopped to go into a couple of second-hand stores, this mural sprang up out of the middle of nowhere.

If walls could talk, they’d tell you what was behind them. Barring that miracle, the artist broke down the wall himself to show us what might have been there if only we could have seen through it.

Our resort also had little pieces of art scatted throughout the complex. To be honest we were more interested in the birds, which were real than the rabbit someone pulled out of his hat

Other Challenges that Inspired PPAC this week.

Now it’s your turn.

What’s your PPAC theme this week? Are you into statues or sculptures (and what’s the difference anyway?) Did you find some cool murals? Did you go on a trip or a walk around your hometown and grab a bunch of different kinds of public art? I can’t wait to see it.

    1. Thanks, Bren. I was pleased with it being there. I found out yesterday that in Oro Valley, AZ, the city requires EVERY business to spend money for public art. “A budget for public artwork shall be established based on one percent (1%) of the building permit valuation for the project, including all phases of a multi-phase project.” https://orovalley.town.codes/ZC/27.3 I would imagine that other cities require similar budgets to fund art in their communities.

    1. You should head down there between November and March. It is one of the most beautiful places in the world at that time. If you ever want to meet up down there, it’s only 4.5 hours from where I live. Manny and I would love to go on a photo shoot together! 🙂

      1. Hi Marsha & Manny, we’ll need to put the visit on hold for now; Susan’s now into the editing phase of her novel so down time is pretty scarce & we’re not getting out & about at the moment. I think Manny would enjoy a visit more when we have time to get out on the bikes 😃

    1. I thought it was such a find. It’s the only art that I got out of the car to take pictures of. I’m not a big fan of 105 degrees. LOL. That one was worth it, though. 🙂 Thanks so much for thinking that looked like me! 🙂

    1. Ally, I can imagine. I have a lot of people and vehicles in my pictures, LOL. I don’t mind them as much as some people do. Sometimes I wait for them to move, and sometimes they just get their pictures taken.

  30. That’s a wonderful mural, Marsha! More and more of this kind of thing crops up. I guess street art is here to stay. Not sure about that character sitting on the pavement though. I think she has melted. Hope you find somewhere cooler to enjoy your weekend.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. LOL, Jo. Thanks. That melted woman at a glance (and that’s all I got) was almost indecent. The rest of the artwork in that park area seemed almost child-centered and she sure didn’t fit. Maybe her clothes melted off first. 🙂 BTW, I’m home now and the weather is a perfect 70-80 degrees F (21+ degrees C). The wind is a bit perky, though. Thanks for stopping by.

    1. It was in a shopping mall on Highway 111 near Monterey, I think. We went to the Revivals Thrift Store and the 99 Cent Store there (I think). If not that, then I’m not sure. Here is an awesome resource for art in Palm Desert, though. I’ve asked my friend and Cindy where we were. I looked on Google Maps and did the 360, but that might be old pictures. I didn’t see it. When will I ever learn to write things down?

        1. You’ve presented me with a super puzzle. I found out that my phone doesn’t have an accurate latitude and longitude for that area. Does Desert Crossing mean anything to you? My phone lists it as Desert Crossing. It’s at Hwy 111 and Fred Waring. There are tons of Murals in that area on the map I found.
