IT’S EASY TO PLAY ALONG WITH #WQWWC
This weekly writing challenge runs from Wednesday through Tuesday. The only rule is to use a quote. If you want to participate, create a pingback to link your post. Not sure how to do that? See how to create pingbacks here. Be sure to link to the most recent post, not my page. I don’t see links to my page.
#WQW # 10 – Topics: 5 Senses:
This year on the following dates one of our senses – not common sense – will be one of the topics for WQW. Writers use the senses to make their descriptions and dialogue pop. Photographers have to make do with just one, and videographers have only two.
Our expressions and body language give us visual clues to the other senses that a person experiences, such as wrinkled noses, sniffing in the air, looking at one’s shoe, and covering one’s mouth and nose as examples of showing the sense of smell.

My Choices for Senses Especially Taste
The five senses are the ministers of the soul.

We write to taste life twice: in the moment and in retrospection.

Food, recipes, and restaurants are some of the most popular topics in the world. There is an entire culture of food bloggers and foodies who more about food than I do. Sadly I rarely write about food because I’m the gobble-and-go type of girl. I love to eat, and I do way too much of it.
My husband once commented about my cooking, “If you loved to cook, Marsha, you’d cook.”
I was so insulted at the time. I argued, “But I cook. I like to cook.”
He agreed with me that I like to cook. As an example of my relationship with food, taste, and recipes, let me tell you about my day yesterday.
March 8, 2022, Eating Is About Making Memories Not Just Food
I had a wonderful breakfast at Snooze in Scottsdale, AZ, and met three bloggers, two for the first time. The food was ok except for Janet’s mocha. Four of the five of us had French Toast with fruit and either bacon or sausage. Janet took my husband’s recommendation for Corned Beef Hash and said it was good. But the company and camaraderie were fabulous! A trip I’d make again any time.
Then I stopped by the condo where my husband was working. He wanted to take a lunch break and asked me to go with him. I agreed. We went to Chic-filet and I had a cup of soup. I wasn’t too hungry but it had been two hours since I ate. LOL
Finally, last night I invited two couples and my sister-in-law over for a “spontaneous” dinner a couple of days ago to try out the stew I bought. We had Costco Irish Stew and Costco Cobb Salad. It was delicious. Everyone brought something, cheese and crackers, wine, dips, (one homemade), little pound cakes with fruit and canned whipped cream, and cherry fluff that I had made for lunch with Cindy last week.
We had a great time and it was a good meal. Without the ability to get fast food at the store, we probably would not have socialized at all. (I’m more about social than what’s on my plate, I’m afraid.) Not that I don’t appreciate a wonderful, well-thought-out meal either in someone’s home or in a restaurant, but I’m more apt to write about and remember the fun time rather than the food.
As an aside, I did get up in the middle of the night to take two Tums, drink some water to calm my dehydration headache, write this blog post, and read a few blogs.
Foodies
Don’t ignore the five senses in search of a sixth.

Well, Art is Art, isn’t it? Still, on the other hand, water is water. And east is east and west is west and if you take cranberries and stew them like applesauce they taste much more like prunes than rhubarb does. Now you tell me what you know.
Groucho Marx
Foodies have their cameras or phones out on the table.
If you are a foodie, then celebrate it! It’s your adventure. One of my favorite movies of all times was Julie and Julia about a young blogger who decided to cook through Julia Child’s Cookbook. As she did the viewers got to know both women.
If you are a food blogger, there are challenges that help you share your food memories with others. What’s on Your Plate and Foods Around the World are two that I know about. And don’t forget to link a post about your food experience here on this week’s WQW.
What Diet to Follow and Food Supplements to Take?
Equipped with our five senses – along with telescopes and microscopes and mass spectrometers and seismographs and magnetometers and particle accelerators and detectors sensitive to the entire electromagnetic spectrum – we explore the universe around us and call the adventure science.

There is a lot of experimentation going on about food: Keto Diet, Noom, Weight Watchers, Adkin’s Diet. Eggs have too much cholesterol – no they’re good for you. Don’t eat fat – eat fat and lose the carbs. There’s the Seafood Diet – see food eat it.
There are people who are the Biggest Losers, who made food their god and weigh over 500 pounds. Doctors and exercise experts try to get them back in shape. At 500-1,000 pounds a human being doesn’t have a life beyond their bed and their plate. They can’t wear clothes are photographed in diapers or sheets. How could something so good for you – food – be so bad? But it is.
My blogger friend, and this month’s Story Chat author, once wrote a comment that she said I could quote about food and diet.
“However, I think sometimes we do not do enough preventive early on – like is the best cancer prevention to catch it early? That is BS – the best cancer prevention is to get off the standard American diet – and my husband calls it the unholy Trinity – 1) industrial oils (canola, vegetable, etc – they are better for automobiles rather than humans and avocado coconut, or olive oil are better); 2) sugars that suppress immune system – even agave and fruit can wreak havoc on someone with toxicity and buildup – (and the awful corn syrups scar the liver); and 3) grains – they hurt the gut and pull from health (but our culture is in denial about this big time and I was brainwashed to think a multigrain cracker or bread slice was better for me than a piece of beef)”

When food isn’t enough, we experiment with vitamins and mineral supplements. On and off, I’ve taken Vitamin C to ward off Covid and other respiratory ailments this year, Biotin to grow back my hair, Glucosamine to improve my joints, Calcium to improve my bones, and Elderberry chews to help ward off Covid (in addition to the normal vaccines I’ve taken), multiple vitamins, Beet Chews to improve circulation, Melatonin Chews to help me sleep, and a number of other “tried it once rather than twice” type pills.
It’s amazing what we can put into our bodies and not die.
I had to use a myriad of things – and will take various supplements for the rest of my life.

“logos nutritionals” are the vitamins that really worked for me and saved me – in fact, one day I will post about how much I love those supplements and how my body lapped up their formulas. whew –
Humans don’t have all the answers about Taste, Food, Recipes, and Diets. So we experiment. And it’s great fun.
Now it’s your turn.
