#WQW #6 – Topic: Romance and Love

Definition: Romance: 1. a feeling of excitement and mystery associated with love. 2. a quality or feeling of mystery, excitement, and remoteness from everyday life.

Love: 1. an intense feeling of deep affection. 2. a feeling of deep romantic or sexual attachment to someone.

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. There are lots of creative things to make or do with a great quote. I made some memes.

“Love makes your soul crawl out from its hiding place.”

-Zora Neale Hurston

I saw some beautiful handmade paper books on Pinterest. I also saw a lot of beautiful and delicious-looking cakes and candies.

“It’s a curious thought, but it only when you see people looking ridiculous that you realize just how much you love them.”

Agatha Christie

I love using Canva for making designs of any kind because I’m not a graphic artist. Yet I am almost always pleased with the products I can make using this program.

“Love isn’t something natural. Rather it requires discipline, concentration, patience, faith, and the overcoming of narcissism. It isn’t a feeling, it’s a practice.”

Eric Frome

Vince’s favorite color is green, so I made a few different green memes and I still have five days with which to create something with them.

“To be truly seen by someone, and then be loved anyway – this is a human offering that can border on miraculous.”

Elizabeth Gilbert

Quotes could easily be turned into cards, stationery, mousepads, sweatshirts, tee shirts.

“When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as soon as possible.”

Nora Ephron

First Valentine’s Day

This year we celebrate the 27th anniversary of our first date on February 11th. It was a day we will both remember forever.

For some reason, I drove my relatively new motor home to our first date. I was recently widowed and my first husband and I had loved it. I thought Vince would, too.

Who does that? I guess I thought it was cool to own a motor home. I remember thinking what a great catch I was because I had this great asset and we could eventually travel all over the country and have SOOOO much fun.

Vince, on the other hand just thought, like most people would, that it was totally weird. Was I trying to seduce him? It was awkward to park a motor home in the parking lot because they were doing construction there.

We had a great time on our date. I tried tortilla soup for the first time. We split something chocolatey and ice-creamy. I was shocked that he liked chocolate because he was in super shape and acted like he had never eaten sweets. (What an act!) He was shocked that I would share my sundae.

Outside my motor home after dinner, he shook my hand and with a little out-loud self-talk decided he could give me a hug. I crawled into my motor home feeling like the date had been a total success. I was sure my motor home and I had wowed him.

  3. Hello, I’m new here–by way of Sadje’s blog. Let’s see if I’ve got the instructions straight: I choose a quote on the topic–this week it’s romance and love–and I post the quote, with my written response to it? Or a photo/image…or both? If I’m understanding correctly, I’d like to give it a whirl 🙂

        1. Yes, you had a beautifully written bitter-sweet post. Love is like that, isn’t it? So many times in life I thought I was not going to be able to breathe because the other person didn’t love me, and other times when I coudn’t give someone the time of day. There has to be chemistry going both ways.

    1. Wasn’t I such a catch? Not every single 43 year-old had a motor home in those days. And better yet, I had a job! He really was more attracted to the job part. 🙂

  18. Where do I begin? I love learning more and more about my friend Marsha. Driving your motor home is an absolute hoot. ….absolutely uncool. You could have sabotaged the relationship, but God had something in mind beyond what my small mind would imagine.

The love quotes couldn’t be better selected. I’ll read them several times. Thank you for this gift of blog.

    1. Wasn’t that hilarious. I have no idea what I was thinking other than showing it off. He was much more impressed that I had a job than a motor home that cost me $315 a month. He wanted me to get rid of it almost immediately after we married. I was a little hurt, but I couldn’t see keeping it if he didn’t love taking it to the coast – which was where I loved to go nearly every weekend before Mark died. Big difference was that Mark didn’t work and Vince did and didn’t have weekends off. 🙂

  23. Sweet quotes in this post. I think when we look ridiculous we become more endearing to those we love. We let our guard down. That can be fun.

Love that you drove your RV to your first date. I asked my husband for a hug at the end of our first date and when he pulled away, I told him we weren’t finished hugging yet. Ha!!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. I still have to tell my husband that. Several years ago I let him in on the rule that the woman determines the length of the hug. The first time he kissed me good night at my door, I didn’t realize it but I had put my foot on his foot to hold him there until I was finished. He really fell for that one. 🙂

  26. Oh Marsha, this is so sweet and lovely. What a special tale and lovely memory for the two of you.

My husband and I first met as teenagers. I thought he was so cool (he wasn’t), he had coloured spikey hair (now balding) and was this confident cheeky guy (actually he’s quite shy). And I think my heart skipped a beat, I remember that flutter of excitement when I realised he knew my name – haha. Now I am much older and despite it being a cliche, I love him more every day.

Thank you so much for sharing my post from last week. I’ll try to get this week’s up soon.
