Trees Like Me

take
my head
I will live
I bloom yearly
producing sweet fruit
Leo the late bloomer
my graying hair dyed auburn
trying to stay limber and fit
keeping my straight rows in perspective
enjoying the companionship of friends
delicate root system, tread softly
complicated integrated
rough, dry emollient free
built rugged for long life
never showing loss
frizzy hair day
resting place
autumn
stout

Double Etheree
©Marsha Ingrao 2022

An etheree poem consists of ten lines with an increasing number of syllables, created twenty years ago my a man named Etheree Taylor Armstrong. (poor guy) The first line is a one-syllable word; the second line has two syllables, continuing until the tenth line which has ten syllables. Taking it back down to one syllable makes the poem a double etheree.

    1. Thank you, Janis. Colleen Chesebro introduced me to syllabic poetry and I enjoy writing it a lot. It does not seem quite as forced as rhymed poetry to me, although I enjoy that, too. 🙂
