During one those weeks, where I enjoyed company, my roommate Jamie Beck and I were so busy that we had no time for solitude. We were at a Teachers’ Institute at Colonial Williamsburg. We were on the go from 7:00 am for breakfast, and our activities ended at 9:00 pm. Sometimes she stayed out later than I did giving me a few minutes to look at all our pictures. We shared pictures. Here are some that I don’t think I’ve ever shared on my blog.

The day’s topic of learning that day was Economics and Trades in Colonial Williamsburg

One of those wigs may look like George Washington for a reason. He frequented this shop. Your guess is as good as mine regarding the first item with three buckles at the bottom.

    The last couple of years have been an extended quiet; and lots of opportunity for solitude. While I appreciate the less hectic pace of life and the opportunities for reflection, my social skills are seriously rusty.

      I hear what you are saying. I think it might be making a global change in all of us, Ju-Lyn. Those of us who are social, have turned to the internet for sure. I’m looking forward to becoming social again. It is like living in bizarro world! 🙂

      Those came from a place you would love to visit called Colonial Williamsburg. When Virginia was still a colony, most of the founding fathers met in Williamsburg. It was the location of the college and the seat of the government. The Foundation has maintained the town as it was, and actors work full time to play roles of the townspeople of the 1770s. At the Teacher Institute, we spent a week there and went to classes, to the settlement in Jamestown, where there are also reenactors. We visited a tobacco farm, spent time in the taverns talking politics of the day. Acted parts in a debate in the House. (I was a rich farmer.) We played a part all week long and collected research on our person. Mine was Clementina Rind, an influential female editor. We learned to dance, set a table, went to court where a Baptist pastor was on trial for going against the Chruch of England. My roommate played the part of the pastor. It was a fabulous experience.

    Hi Marsha – I am not joining in with bloganuary (wish I could but had a monster-busy month over here)
    but I enjoyed your throwback to Williamsburg and love our roommate’s photo through the window – so unique and really give the inside and outside vibe of that historic place.
    I live less than an hour from Williamsburg and many years ago we used to take guests there for a nice visit. Not anymore, but I have a special trip with my mother-n-law and this last year sent her a card from Williamsburg – it had a recipe inside for an old stew – and the cover had one of the historic buildings – cool set of cards.

      It is one of the coolest places to go I have ever visited. My husband and I went back the year after I attended the institute. The only real problem they have with the institute is the extremely hot weather and keeping up with all the activities. We got there on a week that was less than 100 degrees, which made it bearable.
