Public art encompasses any form of art you see in a public place, large or small, statues, murals, graffiti, gardens, parks, etc. The art should be visible from streets, sidewalks, or outdoor public places. Let your imagination and photographic eye show us diverse samples all over the world.
Last week for PPAC #30, I had a marvelous response from all of you. I want to say thank you to each of you for joining along in our challenge. Here are the featured bloggers for this week. Their posts really grabbed my attention. They are all worthy of a second or third look.

My Choices for PPAC #31 Welcome to Wickenburg
Driving through Arizona, you don’t just happen to stop by Wickenburg. Going one direction south from Prescott on Hwy 89 was so winding and treacherous that it took us nearly a year before we wanted to try to go again. This time we took the back way and went on Iron Springs Road which was a beautiful and pleasant drive.
Mr. Runner is scavenging for some food and must have found an acorn by the looks of it. Now he’s going to try to find some water. It hasn’t rained for quite a while. I hope he finds some.
The grinding stones look empty now. I’ve heard from reliable sources in California that women each had their own hole which they kept for a lifetime. The bigger and deeper the hole, the older the woman. We will leave Mr. Runner to take care of his watering needs and meander through town.
I was shocked when we arrived to find such a charming town, and the museum was to die for. That will come in a later post. For now, let’s just explore to see who’s hanging around downtown.

For nearly thirty years before the jail was built criminals endured the 115-degree summer heat outside, tied to the Jail Tree. Of course, in 1863 no one, even the upstanding citizens enjoyed the comforts of air conditioning, and it seems like everyone had on a lot of clothing.
Animals Suffered Too

There were statues and cool public art around every corner. It will take several posts to show you everything.
The weather was perfect for walking around town, no wind, no clouds, about 75 degrees. I wore a winter jacket and about died! It was cool enough to need it when we left Prescott.

Enjoyed your haiku and your photography. Wickenburg sounds like a colorful place to spend some time. Cannot imagine being chained to a tree in the heat of an Arizona summer day. Cruel and unusual punishment for sure. But I love Arizona and if we were ever to move anywhere away from El Paso, it would probably be west to Arizona.

There’s this old train yard I pass by everyday to work. I believe it’s called Travel Town in Burbank/Griffith Park area. Your train reminded me to stop by there one day to take photos of the trains.

We both saw the train at the same time. We were headed for the museum entrance, but it was like a magnet pulled us to the trail. There might be more photos this week, I haven’t decided yet but it was a great time. On another subject. Manny is on his way home from FL and should be arriving soon.

Yes, syllables, too. Sometimes I have to look up synonyms or reword a bit to get just what I want without sounding stilted or trite.

When I travel anywhere now, I am always on the lookout for potential PPAC. I had a few pictures to start, but now I see opportunities everywhere. It’s like doors! Now I take them on purpose. ๐

Here we go. Please excuse a little turn from public art proper towards an indoor exhibition. But it made me happy. Hundertwasser always does.

We go to Wickenburg regularly for lunch. Our two favorite places are Anita’s Cocina and Nana’s Sandwich Shoppe.

We went into there. Nana’s had some very cute windows. We did a YELP search and came up with Screamers. It was 4.8 on Yelp and I’d give it a 2.5, but we were hungry. Next time! I’m definitely going back! We can meet up.

LOL I put a close up of him on my WQW post, and did a little healing using Bridge. He has some pretty bad scrapes and scratches. Thanks for joining us. Come back often. There’s always some public art lurking where you least expect it. ๐

A strange collection of artistic sculptures and what looks like “sculpture dummies” for want of a better word. But interesting, nevertheless!

That’s a good word for it, “sculpture dummies!” Some old-fashioned towns have actual people stationed around in costumes as docents like Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia and Sovereign Hill in Ballarat, AU. I found a few more as we were driving away, so I’ll have to go back! ๐

I forgot to say that I like the chimney, but the explanation goes a long way in making it acceptable, I think. Prescott lost 19 fire fighters in 2013, and it is still a big thing here. Someone painted a 19 right next to the white P on Badger Mountain. It was up for 19 days.
