Wow! This could be a very long list, but I’ll keep to the bare basics.

- I wish I knew how to do all the things that I do know how to do only better! I get to a certain point of expertise and quit, move on to the next interest and do the same. When I go back to the first everyone else has improved so much, and I’m 20 years behind.
- For example, I’d sure like to write fiction better than I do.
- Better cook
- Better photographer
- Better quilter
- Better knitter
- More artistic
- Better gardener
- Better poet
- Better organizer
- Better planner
- More musical
- More thrifty
- I’d love to be more athletic and less of a klutz.
- I’d like to learn to crochet.
- I’d like to learn to draw and to paint.

wait… Marsha, I think you’re good at most of those you just said you weren’t that good at! 💖

LOL, I’d say mediocre compared to experts. That’s my measure, my friend. 🙂

my list would be quite long as well, but if I were to pick one, I would go with wishing I knew how to play a musical instrument…

That would be a good one. Which instrument would you like to play?

guitar or piano…

Good choices. When are you starting lessons?

Hobbies are so much fun and with 1000s to choose from, we have a long list to try to accomplish a handful! I agree with Janis’ comment about learning to play an instrument in elementary school. My mom didn’t encourage me, oh well. You do have a great list of things you feel you could be better at, but you are very accomplished already in many of those, Marsha!

Thank you so much, my friend. You should hear me on the piano. I thought I could play well by osmosis. My mom was a pianist and all I had to do was imbibe her talent. It didn’t work that way. No matter how hard I practiced, it came out like I keyboard – one note forward, erase and two notes back. 🙂

There are things I can do that I’d like to do better, like you – I’d like to speak better German for instance, and to speak more than a few words of Italian. But top of my list would be being able to sing, which I can’t do at all! I can hear it’s all wrong, so I can’t be tone deaf, but I just can’t make my voice go where I know it should be!

Ah, Sarah, me too. I wish I could sing again. With all the things that happened to me this summer, my voice has a new range of about 2 notes and those are not pretty. I have no breath control. It is a sad state of affairs. I am actually able to sing a tad better than I could two months ago, but I was down to a 0-note range at that point. To think I could almost reach 3 octaves when vocalized with my mom when I was a teenager – so debilitating! I wish you the best in learning to sing. It brought me a lot of joy but I didn’t appreciate what I had until I lost it completely.

I hope more comes back to you in the future – it must be a hopeful sign that a little has done so. But I think I’m a lost cause!

You could change your name to TuneSarah. Maybe that would help! 🙂

If I were to do such a list for myself, I’d have many of the same items on it. No matter how hard I’d try, though, I’d like to be a better singer. My wife will tell you that after 50 years+, there’s been no improvement.

LOL! I told Toonsarah my sad story about singing. I can’t anymore.

We always want to be better at things and I have a long list too. Yet I am happy with the things I can do. We can’t be experts at everything 🙂 I am excellent in relaxing!

I love that, Ute. I am an expert at that as well, though not as good as Nutter Butter. 🙂

Thanks so much, Sadje. I’ve been working at both of those skills for longer than any of the other hobbies I have.

I think I’d have a fairly long list too. I feel that I’m pretty good at some things but not great at many. I wish I had taken up the violin when I was offered the chance in 6th grade (apparently my ability to discern individual tones was especially good). I also wish I was better at learning languages.

Amen to both of those. I was going to take violin in 5th grade. Dad said no way he was going to listen to my screeching and squeaking. I speak three languages poorly, English, Spanish and French.
