ITโS EASY TO PLAY ALONG WITH #WQWWC
This weekly writing challenge runs from Wednesday through Tuesday. The only rule is to use a quote. If you want to participate, create a pingback to link your post. Not sure how to do that? See how to create pingbacks here. Be sure to link to the most recent post, not my page. I donโt see links to my page.
Definition:-Toys/Play
Miniature object for a child’s play, a trifle or unimportant object, a whim, small breed of dog, move or handle absent mindedly or nervously, consider casually or indecisively
If you are toying around with some ideas trying to decide what to post for #WQWWC this week, think about YOUR favorite toys – either now or when you were a child. As a child, you probably never gave the container crisis we have today a second thought. Even if there were not tons of toys in your closet already, you could make them.
The coolest toys don’t have to be bought; they can be built. In fact, sometimes the only way they’ll ever exist is if you make them yourself.
Adam Savage
Yes, I played the piano at age 3 – “Three Blind Mice” by ear. No, I did not develop into a child prodigy. My neighbor and I built mud cities in the ditch for the worms. My brother, Randy made dolls out of aluminum foil. He and I had more fun with the box that my grandmother’s dryer came in than in all of our toys. We’d hop in and try to push it over.
Other Challenges
Today, along with #WQWWC, I’m catching Photobyjohnbo‘s Cell Pic Sunday. Almost all my photos are taken with my cell phone. Sunday Stills – “Getting Cozy,” Jez’s Challenge, “Fan Of.“ Colleen Chesebro started me writing poetry again and her book and blog can help you climb your poetree. I used my own images rather than Colleen’s for this week’s Tanka Tuesday Writing Challenge – Specific form – Tanka Prose. Ju-Lyn’s post, The Changing Seasons also works well with Writer’s Quotes this week as we think about the upcoming holidays.
My Choices for This Week
The main point for me is that toys are incredibly more important than we realized.
Brian Sutton-Smith
Some kids play with more advanced toys. I’m a fan of classical music and talented young children.
Serious Play
Most parents let you take their kids' pictures. Many times I ask them if they want to text or email themselves a copy and they do so. This little girl bit her fingers and acquiesced to the photo, but not enthusiastically. Clearly, I hadn't established enough trust to get her to smile let alone pose. You can't have my doll. She didn't smile at me. Dolls - serious work. "We're going to the market. She's hungry. We've got to go." a Tanka Prose ยฉ Marsha Ingrao 2021

Toy in the Tub
I knew I was an unwanted baby when I saw that my bath toys were a toaster and a radio.
Joan Rivers

In a minute Manny felt much cozier and ready for a new adventure. His next adventure will be to go to Floride and see his friend Biasini. I’m a fan of Manny and Biasini.

Shopping for Toys
I once bought my kids a set of batteries for Christmas with a note on it saying, toys not included.
Bernard Manning
Shopping for Toys for Toys
Manny and I went shopping in the toy section at Target where we found the perfect outfit for his horseback riding trip. The outfit packaged in an open box, pictured on a girl doll. We stopped a little boy and his mom and asked them if they thought the outfit was too feminine for Manny, but they thought it would be perfect. What do you think? Vince thinks I’m nuts.

Glimpses of Christmas Present
Yoda and Jeep, Batman and trucks, None of them cheap Or run in the muck. Excited they leap, Even dogs are in luck Toys they will keep But none that go cluck. Not a buck or a duck A mouse fast asleep, Cat wonderstruck, From the mouse not a peep. Rhyming free verse ยฉ Marsha Ingrao 2021
Big Boys – Big Toys
Don’t take your toys inside just because it’s raining.
Cher

Petite Pup – Pampered Pirate
โItโs tough to stay married. My wife kisses the dog on the lips, yet she wonโt drink from my glass.โ
Rodney Dangerfield
The standard size for a toy dog is 4-7 pounds, so this dog is probably a miniature. Clearly, he is also his mama’s toy. Like the Velveteen Rabbit, he has been much loved.

Though not a toy sized dog, this dog stole the dog show at the handicapped art festival.
โTo his dog, every man is Napoleon; hence the constant popularity of dogs.โ
โAldous Huxley

Is this dog a toy? Wearing his pirate outfit He's missing a leg Successful dog show Voting with our hands we chose Doing tricks or not The pirate stole the show. Haiku ยฉ Marsha Ingrao
“Don’t Toy with Me, Cat.”

Classical Music Often Associated with Cartoons
Great events make me quiet and calm; it is only trifles that irritate my nerves.
Queen Victoria
So, I ask Queen Victoria, “What constitutes a trifle?”
Cartoons might be considered a trifle because they entertain kids, but the classical music that played in the background of cartoons when I was young, was no trifling matter. In this video, a young child entertained adults playing classical music along with an adult orchestra.
Akim performed at the age of three and drew an enormous audience. At four in this video, he had graduated to a better violin, and was playing better than most adults who can play the violin. I think Queen Victoria would have been thrilled to hear him.
Remembering and Mourning with Toys
When we think of toys, children and happy occasions come to mind. When something happens to a young person often, the memories are sometimes honored with toys.

Now it’s your turn.
Toys come in all shapes and sizes. Playing can be funny or serious. Toys and playing are important work for children and adults. What childhood toys do you remember? How did they influence you? What toys do you buy for your children or grandchildren?
As we approach Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Boxing Day and any other holiday you celebrate this month. I hope this look at toys inspires you to think outside the box. (That was supposed to be funny.)

Manny looks adorable in his riding gear!
My favourite toys when I was a kid were my model cars (Model Ts, Mustangs, Phantoms, and 2CVs etc.) and a doll’s house I made out of my bookshelves. The bottom three shelves were the garage to house ALL the motors. Happy times.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this post, Marsha. I smiled broadly, felt sad & wistful, and cheered; not a bad way to start my day at all!
Loved your poems – such a variety and fun! Manny is adorable – appreciate the peek into his day.
The Pirate Doggie is so cute – it took me a while to unpack whether he was a live doggie, or a stuffed toy; his costume is very deceptive!

Hi again, Ju-Lyn. Yes, Pirate doggie was very real and very old. I imagine the owner carried him a lot since he was both blind and missing a front leg. She turned his handicaps into something adorable.

First I have to weigh in that play is indeed play and considered unobligated time. The minute it is obligated and it ceases to be fun, it becomes work! I have proof, LOL! And maybe everything is play! Some day those cute little music prodigies will resent their instruments and their parents, when they couldn’t just go out and play and be a kid.
Marsha, this is such a fun, playful post, first with your wonderful and laugh-out-loud poetry and secondly with the great kid and toy shots and those of Manny the Bear! Who doesn’t love toys at any age, of any style? My new toy today is a brand, new cyber Monday purchase…a 32-inch monitor for my PC! LOVE! My internet is still slow so I’m done for the day! You’ve given me good ideas on how I can spin your challenge to my song-lyric photo challenge this Sunday!

I took piano and violin lessons for years. About the only thing I came away with is an appreciation of the opportunities my parents gave me.
I still remember a Christmas when my sister and I got dolls. Her doll had ‘real’ hair. Mine was bald. lol

Your post reminded me of that often-quoted saying, “Play is the work of children”, obviously, it stands to reason that toys are the tools of that work.
LikeLiked by 4 people
Yes, indeed. And there is a wide range of what constitutes a toy! However, when you think about adults playing, and they do. Is that work? I tend to think that sometimes it is also work. Consider someone with a model train hobby. How many hours of fiddling and construction does he or she do? A gardener? Same thing – hours spent studying, planting, weeding, harvesting, marketing, photography even. So maybe everything is work, my friend! LOL!
