IT’S EASY TO PLAY ALONG WITH #WQWWC

This weekly writing challenge runs from Wednesday through Tuesday. The only rule is to use a quote.

โ€œA quotation in a speech, article or book is like a rifle in the hands of an infantryman. It speaks with authority.โ€ Brendan Behan

Come to Order about Order

In order to look up meaningful quotes about order, we must first identify which order we are coming to. Is it

  • an arrangement something in a pattern, sequence, or by a specific method
  • a command, directive instruction, decree, edict or injunction?
  • a political, economical system’s caste, structure, ranking
  • a community such as a society such as monks, Eagles, Free Masons
  • a way we get food, or other goods we want to buy?
  • a request for something be need to

Since there are so many different meanings for the word order, the quotes are going to be ubiquitous as well.

Van Gogh may not have shut his eyes, but I couldn’t see very well in the darkened room with all these pictures morphing before my eyes. This was clearly just click quickly in order to take any picture at all.

I shut my eyes in order to see.

Paul Gauguin

Along with many of my peers, I took piano lessons from my mom when I was young. Order is super important for piano players and other musicians. Mom often insisted from the kitchen that my notes might not be in the right order. That pronouncement always made me livid because she wasn’t looking at the notes – I WAS!

I’m playing all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order.

Eric Morecambe

You are not here merely to make a living. You are here in order to enable the world to live more amply, with greater vision, with a finer spirit of hope and achievement. You are here to enrich the world, and you impoverish yourself if you forget the errand.

Woodrow Wilson

The possibilities for order are endless, but if that doesn’t work for you, you can pick your own topic this week and run with it. I welcome all your thoughts.

My Entry This Week

To celebrate and edify order, I made several lists this week as I filled out forms.

List #1 FROM MY JOURNAL

These dates helped me organize all the crazy things that happened to me medically since my inadvertent loosing battle with the sidewalk on July 23.

  1. July 23
  2. July 30
  3. Aug 4
  4. Aug 9
  5. Aug 13
  6. Aug 17
  7. June 22
  8. Sept 1
  9. Sept 2
  10. Sept 7

I spent lots of time putting it in order as I remembered what happened. In the next list, I used my list, calendar, and my computer and wrote detailed notes for the doctor. Notice the differences.

  1. July 23
  2. July 30
  3. Aug 4
  4. Aug 9
  5. Aug 10
  6. Aug 11
  7. Aug 13
  8. Aug 17
  9. Sept 1
  10. Sept 2
  11. Sept 7
  12. Sept 8

Remember those Highlights Magazines where you had to compare things to see what was out of place? That is how writing lists works for me. If you skimmed through my journal, you would find ooodles of lists with scratches and arrows. It’s always a challenge because my brain doesn’t work in an orderly way. I make a list, check it twice then break the order the first time I use it.

What’s going on in your well-ordered world? How do you make it so?

HAVE A GREAT HUMP EVENING. – THAT DIDN’T SOUND GOOD, BUT IT’S WEDNESDAY JUST GO WITH IT. LOVE YOU ALL! THANKS FOR VISITING.

  1. Right now it’s an act of intentionality to keep things ordered. My house is a bit chaotic right now due to an addition and then a water leak in our current kitchen, so the contents of that are scattered in various places. Lol. BUT I do have a great online calendar I love using to help me keep things somewhat in order.

    • Kirstin, you are going through the trials right now, aren’t you? I’m sure your life feels topsy-turvy. When you’re tossed on the waves that are higher than your boat, you let go a little bit of your own order and depend on a higher order, wouldn’t you say?

  2. Brilliant post, Marsha. Thank you for the mention too. One of my OH’s dreams is to play the piano. He’s quite good at the keyboard. I’m hoping to save up and buy him some lessons at some point. My life is totally out of order at the moment, between new job roles, house renovations and taking care of our little one (not to mention the numerous illnesses we’ve had over the last six months and of course the disruption of covid on the world), life had just got on top of me a bit. But I’m starting to claw it back bit by bit. Each week now I find time to write (even if it’s just a little, that helps) and of course lots of lists. Little steps. KL โค

  3. Great to see all the comments here, Marsha! As I get back to the blog today for Sunday, I found some quotes that work for both our prompts this week! All I will say now is that without order, I would be a basket case with all that air travel two weeks ago! Thanks again for the inspiration and “see” you Sunday!

Hi, I'm Marsha Ingrao, a retired educator and wife of a retired realtor. My all-consuming hobby is blogging and it has changed my life. My friends live all over the world. In November 2020, we sold everything and retired to the mile-high desert of Prescott, AZ. We live less than five miles from the Granite Dells, four lakes, and hundreds of trails with our dog, Kalev, and two cats, Moji and Nutter Butter. Vince's sister came with us and lives close by. Every day is a new adventure.
