PPAC 10 Featured Bloggers

We had a marvelous response from all of you on last week’s PPAC #10. I had the privilege to pick out the featured bloggers and say “thank you” to each of you for joining along in our challenge.  These posts really grabbed my attention. They are all worthy of a second or third look.

PRESCOTT LOO WITH A VIEW OR TWO

Just blocks from downtown Prescott a left hand turn could land you at Prescott National Forest and Goldwater Lake. A few blocks before that turn is a hidden park and cemetery called Acker Park. Vince turned and our exploration began.

There’s not much to the park – playground equipment and a small outdoor movie theatre. The cemetery behind it has some interesting markers, though it appears that no one maintains it.

However, the Loo with a View, dedicated in 2010, is worth the trip.

left side as you face the front of the loo.

I’m sure there is so much symbolism involved in all of the paintings, and since Mr. Acker loved children, the pictures are all things that children love. I didn’t count, but I think there were more animals than any other category of pictures. These paintings reminded me of the style drawn in the 1940s-50s, which would represent the popular art Mr. Acker and the children must have enjoyed.

Front entrance to the restrooms. The sign says keep the doors closed. Also submitted for Thursday Doors by Dan Antion at No Facilities (how appropriate is that for this post?)
Walk around to the other side of the building and find this painting. It is fenced off, so you can’t get too close.
The back side looks pretty from a distance, but getting closer allows you to see under the eves. Unfortunately, this is one time the tree shadow was an unwelcome addition, though lacey.

FOTD #27

This month, since TreeSquares is over, I decided to participate in Cee’s Flower of the Day Challenge – (FOTD).  Like Becky B, Cee offers us the freedom to post every day or when we feel like it.  I made the mistake of classifying my trees as flowers for about half the month last month. So this month – no trees. (maybe). Cee’s FOTD challenge accepts:

    1. Yes, not too many people can donate 135 parcels of land to a city. I think the sign said it was the most anyone has ever donated. He was a quiet man, so there’s no mention of him that I’ve seen anywhere else. But he made his mark.

  16. Hi Marsha, This was funny. All that art for a loo. I’ve seen some lessor efforts but most of the time, graffiti vandals have ruined the experience. Back when I just younger and ran my own painting company, I was researching products to defend against graffiti. Most of them were clear very hard coat products that spray paint doesn’t stick to very well, so it’s easier to wash off leaving the original art undamaged. But I didn’t get very far on it because a new job opened up that induced medical benefits so I joined the 9-5 herd instead.
Hope you’re mending up well and loving life.
    Blessings

        1. I’m very grateful and fortunate to be feeling better, and my face looks almost normal again. We went to a dueling pianos concert last night. On Thursday we saw the Van Gogh Immersive experience, so I’m able to go out without looking like my husband beat me up. That’s a super blessing.
