Wellness is associated with happiness. When you’re happy, you’re feeling good in your mind and body. That ties into being healthy, eating well, and exercising regularly. It also ties into being excited about things – like getting up in the morning and having a healthy breakfast.

Stella Maxwell

These past few months you have shared about freedom, hope, healing, summer, vacations, exploring and relaxing, all of which can trigger this week’s topic – exciting.

Featured Relaxed Bloggers

When I’m inspired, I get excited because I can’t wait to see what I’ll come up with next.

Dolly Parton

If you’ve followed Dolly’s accomplishments over the years, you know that she is exciting. We visited Tennessee a few years ago. Almost everyone we talked to had something nice to say about Dolly and her contributions to the community. She took the problems of her childhood and got excited to solve them.

What makes you so happy that excitement bubbles out of you like a child who can’t wait to open presents? Our life is a present each and every day. What gives you the impetus to jump or crawl out of bed? I don’t recommend jumping out of bed or on the bed if you are past 10 especially if your blood pressure is low or you tend to get dizzy.

Excitement can be a momentary thrill, a favorite memory, or an obsession. You might be a very calm person and people who don’t know you well don’t think you get excited, but you know inside of yourself what does it. Most likely it is a combination of events that excite you and give you the excitement of living.

Maybe it is seeing your children succeed at their most recent endeavor – smiling, walking, first word, riding their bike, first day at school, first date, first day of work, marriage, first grandchild. Couple those things with what’s happening with yourself – an ongoing project – building something or helping someone, a new relationship, your work, a future trip, learning a new skill, a move large or small,

It could be that every little thing excites you.

  • having friends over,
  • cooking breakfast,
  • going for a walk,
  • reading a book,
  • seeing the growth of your garden,
  • meeting people at the store,
  • finding a new accessory for your living room,
  • discovering a bunny in your yard,
  • sharing cookies with your neighbor,
  • playing with your pets,
  • learning a new word,
  • video recording your life and sharing it on Facebook.

I love to be around people like this., don’t you? Excitement is like perfume, It makes you attractive and irresistible no matter what your age, your status in life, or even your health.

A Man with Zest for Life

My friend Chuck House is exciting. He and his wife bring excitement with them wherever they go. They touch communities and people with their magic wand of excitement.

Chuck House is over 80, has extreme asthma, macular degeneration, and numerous other old age problems. Yet, Chuck gets excited about everything. One year he measured how fast the water ran in the creek when we had a big rain and sent us Kiwanians all the data week by week. He got into COVID data and together with some other scientific and technological experts created a website that tracked daily COVID data for every county in the country.

When the city couldn’t care for a beautiful three acre rose garden he created a three-year plan to save it and made presentations reaching out to volunteer organizations throughout the county. “Which section of the garden does your organization want to sponsor?” he asked at every meeting They picked sections of the garden to care for. Chuck hosted follow-up meetings in his home and monitored their progress. His enthusiasm and excitement united the community and saved the garden.

Each week during COVID he hosted the Zoom meeting for the Woodlake Kiwanis group of about 18 people. He arranged for special speakers, made sure that everyone at the meeting had a chance to “show and tell” what was new in their life.

After the meeting, he emailed a several page recap of the meeting including foibles, how people looked at 6:30 in the morning, which pets visited the meeting, highlights from the speaker, new words learned, and books recommended. He made the meetings the event of the week.

Before he moved, he compiled all of the recaps into book and published it and gave it to each member of the group and several others at a going away party. I had moved from Woodlake six months prior to Chuck and Jenny’s move, but my husband and I drove 9 hours to attend their party and wish them well. Even at the party their enthusiasm excited the group of young and old, Kiwanis and community members. None of the 50-60 attendees left before nearly ten.

These are just a few of the things that got Chuck House out of bed after the age of 80.

So what excites you so much that you step through the drudgery of each day makes it go by so fast that you marvel at where the time went?

Have a great week and share with me. I love hearing from you.

He still travels all over as a part of the various organizations he’s in. He came to your area often when he lived in Woodlake. He worked for HP and was involved in giving technology awards to scientists around the country. He wrote a history of HP that is still used as a textbook in colleges about the history of the tech industry. I wish you could meet him. The two of you would talk for hours. His wife is just as amazing. She worked with Steve Jobs and was also in on the ground floor of creating Quick Books. She was a kindergarten teacher and then administrator and now still meets with the US Secretary of Education. They know people in high places are are the friendliest people in the world.

I wonder how she liked Steve …. most I know did not as like many wealthy leaders they are tough. Now Scott would started Quick Books is a Gem of a man! Love him.

She didn’t talk about him too much that I remember. They are both well connected but act down to earth.

As you must know by now, I find travel the most exciting thing there is, and if I can’t travel far at the moment I can still get excited about discoveries closer to home – a trip to the countryside, a new exhibition in London, a stay in my husband’s home town of Newcastle.

Here’s a link to the post you suggested I share here, https://www.toonsarah-travels.blog/recycled-spirits-of-iron-ex-nihilo/. Dan Klennert is a man who has followed his dream and is doing what excites him the most 🙂

This is a super post, Marsha. You have to love a man like this. I like to write and bake and create figures out of fondant. I also like to read, blog, and now I have a YouTube channel for poetry, book readings and reviews.

Yes, he is well-loved all over the world. He still travels all over the world speaking at conferences, and is part of many organizations. Yet he has time for individuals and time to help kids with their history and science projects.

I am excited that you have a You Tube channel for poetry. You do a wonderful job of reading poetry. Your videographer does well, too.

I’m with you on the things you love. My You Tube channel is full of videos I’ve taken as I’ve traveled. I’ve not edited any of them. That’s a project for my old age. I’m still working at organizing all my photos. 🙂
