This week, we’d like you to think about the various ways you create your images. Show us the same subject captured using multiple, different approaches.

Celebrating Independence Day
Happy July 4th to everyone. I want to thank all our Veterans for defending our freedom.

We appreciate the opportunities to have fun with family and friends as we celebrate our freedoms together once again in 2021. Here are some photos from past celebrations put on in the city park in the small town of Woodlake, CA. I have wiled away a couple hours playing in Photoshop Elements 15. The little program does more than you think.

I added a diffuse glow filter and used the shape tool to make stars. I picked colors from the picture. Her shirt matched the train almost exactly. I’m not sure it’s better, but it is different. The background is busy either way.
All Aboard

Since the biggest problem with this one is busyness, I tried the Depth of Field to blur the background. Using short, small increments of changes I got close to what I wanted. I fixed the rest with the smudge tool.

Limbo Girl

Even though I love the colorful look of the first photo, The embossed look brings out the girl’s hair which is almost unnoticed in the first picture. Her friend’s fingers take on a dragon-look, which is kind of cool.

Pool Shark

Kids don’t get much cuter than when they are having fun. I wanted to focus in on this little guy, so I cropped the picture and added the Depth of Field Fun Effect in Photo Shop Elements.

Unaffected Beauty

What do you do with a perfect face? The background is already nicely blurred. Nonetheless, I cropped the picture to make a square in case Becky B ever has a Faces Square. Then I added a plastic wrap filter to keep her forever young and turn her into a doll.

Those are fun Marsha! Isn’t it fun editing photos. I need to do it more.

It is fun. It’s good to have a photo challenge that gives you a reason. How are you doing with all this heat? Cee said that Canby was in the news in Europe as the hot spot at 118. That’s so weird.

I prefer the clear photo each time, Marsha.

Good thing I was doing it for fun and not profit!! I agree with you though.

Most of what I do is for ‘fun’ rather than profit. I’m not sure if I should smile or frown. 😂

If I was doing it for profit, people should like the processed result better, but I did it to follow the challenge and it relieved stress to play with the photos and have an excuse to do it.

It is good to try new ways of doing and presenting things. It’s always fun to see what’s possible.

I have fun playing around with basic photo filtes as well – that’s the best way to learn!

It is but I wouldn’t discount taking a class with someone who knows what they are doing. 🙂 Teachers ARE important.

yes, sometimes you can learn more quickly and pick up some tips when you take a class, things you may not learn on your own…

I am not a perfectionist but the people who are usually take classes and get really good. I’m ok with okay,

for most things in life, I’m ok with okay as well. there are a few things though where I try to be at the top of my game…

I think that’s true about me, too. Though I never feel that I am there. Is it low self-esteem or real. I’m never sure. All I can say is I try hard and I try to be happy with the results or vow to do better next time. Otherwise I drive myself crazy. 🙂 The other thing with being a life-long learner is that if you keep learning about the same topic, you become a super hero. If you are always learning something new, like blogging was for me 9 years ago, you’re usually at the bottom, working up.

I think it’s fun to be a life-long learner, and I enjoy learning a variety of new things, and maybe one or two I might to decide to follow through with a bit more…

So what are the new things you want to learn, Jim. Mine were pickleball and e-biking this year.

pickleball is up there for me as well, along with playing a guitar, and kayaking…

Yes and yes. Actually, I have a friend who plays banjo and that might be fun. Definitely kayaking.

Nice job of photo editing. It’s always fun to take a photo to a different level with an artistic edit. I particularly like that final image edit.

Your editing skills are excellent. A friend sent me an older version of Photoshop with which I have played a little but I don’t feel confident using it at all. Have had fun with Prisma. I like the plastic wrap option and Prisma has a mosaic filter. It makes for interesting versions of the original photos. Love the little girl’s hair in the embossed filtered piece. Brings out all the great textures.

Thank you, my friend. I was pleased to have another way to use the pictures. I have hundreds of July 3rd Blast pictures of people I don’t know, but I had permission to take all of them, and so you never know where they will fit in. 🙂 Have a great 4th. Any plans?

No big plans for us for the 4th – what about you?
And by the way – going over to check story chat this week – I cannot always do that fun challenge chat but have a little time this week 😉

I’m still trying to keep up with Cee and all her participants. I’m not doing well. I visited one and got sidetracked with links off John’s post. Did you see the mural and the muralist and photographer he featured? Very interesting, but I couldn’t respond. So I pressed my next go-to Twitter. Oops. Got distracted some more. 🙂
