Terri Webster Schrandt moved to the land of sunshine in the summer months and is enjoying some beautiful sunrises and sunsets. She’s featuring the summer solstice on #Sunday Stills.

Prescott Walk #12C: Blooming Hills Drive

I take Puppy Girl out for a sunset walks to avoid the 100+ degree temps during the heat of the day and to take photos. On this occasion I was looking for trees, but came back with sunsets.

We live in one of the higher elevations in Prescott. Prescott is the other mile-high city – Denver is the larger one.

These pictures were taken at the top of Blooming Hills Drive near a roundabout that takes the road 90 degrees in a different direction. The arrow is just about where I was standing when I took the pictures. If you could see past the house in the third picture you would see a lovely man-made creek cascading down to the Prescott Lakes Golf Course, which you see on the map.

Puppy and I actually take many walks. This next set was taken on June 2nd going down the hill. The walk down to the bottom of Blooming Hills is relatively easy if you have good knees. The walk back is steep. Even though Blooming Hills Drive ends at the bottom of a hill, the elevation is still probably higher than many parts of Prescott. These next shots were taken on the far right side of the map.

The humidity here in the high desert is expectedly low – about 10 – 15%, yet the clouds roll in and tempt us into thinking there will be a monsoon. The clouds you see in all the above pictures are liars.

Yesterday right after lunch, we experienced a mini-monsoon where Touchmark is. We had already left the car show, but we got some big wet drops that came down fairly hard for a few seconds as we drove on Highway 69 at the bottom of the Touchmark hill.

Coming Up

  • Story Chat Recap on Tuesday so you still have one more day to comment on Debbie Harris’ well-loved, other worldly short story.
  • WQWWC on Wednesday two more days to share the “Heat!
  • New Photographing Public Art Challenge (PPAC) hosted by Cee Neuner on Friday. There’s still plenty of time to get in on PPAC #1. Thanks for playing along with this new endeavor. Your displays of public art have been amazing.

That’s it from me for today. I hope you all have a great week.

  1. These are lovely. What a lovely place to walk – in those temps you’d need to wait for sunset.

    1. Yes, and today we had a mini monsoon. So every day is different here. I don’t have a clue what to expect next except by looking at the weather station, but this is our first summer in Prescott, so we are on vacation at home. 🙂

    1. You are always welcome, Donna. We have a guest room and our guests love it. So come on out. We also just got into a condo in Scottsdale and are turning it into an air b & b. Vince is stocking it today. It will be perfect for winter.

  6. Hahaha, the clouds are liars, what a crack-up, Marsha! Good idea to walk at sunset, which I figure is well into the evening. What beautiful views you captured! I forgot that Prescott is mile-high! I was just commented to Hans as I was reading your post that I can’t wait to come to visit you and Vince (this winter). We can stay at my brother’s in Fountain Hills and visit Hans’ daughter in Tempe, you, Ingrid and Al, and a whole bunch of other folks who now live in AZ! Glad you found another paradise, we have too!

    1. And our house! You’ve got to come here, too. And now we have an Air B&B in Scottsdale. Vince went to stock it today. It’s so cute. 🙂

        1. I know. It’s what we do. Rather than letting the retirement nest egg dwindle down to nothing. I’ve been retired almost 9 years and we still have the same or more in my IRA account. So Vince has done well for us.

  8. such wonderful photos; they look like they could serve as the backdrop for a movie or a poster. Does that low humidity make your skin dry?

    1. Thanks, Roberta. We are so blessed believe me. We left the view of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in our back yard, and thought it couldn’t get any better, and found another paradise. 🙂
