Beware: Twisted, Kinda Freaky Story

According to Hugh Roberts, who got Story Chat off to its great start, “The Apple Doesn’t Fall Far from the Tree” by Debbie Harris “had ‘Twilight Zone’ written all over it. I felt I was taken to a parallel world where everything seemed normal but wasn’t.”

This felt so wrong, and I bet will outrage some readers (as it should) but you left us knowing that her husband was broken hearted, but was she?

Gary Wilson

Well that is just twisted! Nicely done, but I do agree with the gentleman who mentioned an alternative ending with the reveal being linked to a dislike of apples.

If you are new to Story Chat please come in, read the story, and tell us what you think about it. Make us argue with your viewpoint. Make us think! In the Story Chat Summary at the end of the month, I weave your comments, like the ones above together into a blog post and add a link to the commenter’s blog.

Part of the fun is meeting new authors and friends. It’s a growing, but intimate group of writers and readers who have fun writing, reading, and conversing together. Below is a list of last month’s attendees. We’d love you have you, not only stop by and comment on Debbie’s story, but visit the blogs of others in the community and get to know them.

All links take you to a post on the attendee’s/commenter’s blog.

  2. Hi Marsha. Thanks for including me. I think there’s a typo above.

For the quote right below the shopping cart photo, you have a quote from one of my review comments but credit Gary Roberts. Did you intend perhaps to use one of Hugh Robert’s comments and credit him instead? This incorrect name does link to one of my stories (thanks BTW) but I don’t want to benefit from Hugh being accidentally typo’ed out.

Fun stuff indeed! Thanks for including me.

    1. My bad, Gary. My fingers typed Roberts, but I was thinking Wilson. Go figure. Thanks for catching that. I make tons of mistakes!

      1. I think it was my mom who told me that the only real mistakes we make are those we don’t recognize. Anyway, thanks for all the time you put into helping us newbies succeed. I really enjoy reading through the discussions in your story chats.

        1. Thanks, Gary. You have some great things to say. It really is fun when the chatters start to chat. Cathy Cade is another great chatter, and author. I just read her comment, which is very thorough. So it’s good to go back on and see what has transpired since you chatted. 🙂

          2. You are awesome, Gary. I had to go back and reread the post after Geoff’s comment. I’m thinking, “What, state-sponsored rape? I didn’t read that in the story.”

I’m not sure what Deb meant by “medical interventions.”

Thank you so much for your participation, Gary Wilson, not Roberts. You’re awesome. 🙂

          3. I’ve read lots of Geoff’s work and he is the king of unexpected hyperbole that stress tests a given point. Think British humor with the mindset of a retired attorney and you’ll realize that this nut is a British national treasure 🤪

          4. He’s way over my literary pay scale, that’s for sure! I learn something every time I read a post or a comment of his. 🙂
