Terri of Second Wind Leisure always inspires me to press on, past being too busy, having too many trials, dealing with sorrow or pain. She does it all and still posts Sunday Stills each week – internet or no internet. This week Sunday Stills examines the celestial regions: sun, moon, stars and clouds, and UFOs. I’m kidding, no UFOs, but her first picture is very interesting!

“The moon does not fight. It attacks no one. It does not worry. It does not try to crush others. It keeps to its course, but by its very nature, it gently influences. What other body could pull an entire ocean from shore to shore? The moon is faithful to its nature and its power is never diminished.”

Tiny Photo Tip

I found out this week from Cee Neuner why my moon shots with my Canon Rebel are not as clear and precise as a regular point and shoot camera or cell phone. First of all, my lens is old, but more importantly it is long. What little light there is has to go through a long dark valley of the shadow of death. So what you see are ghostly pictures of the moon. You can barely see a celestial rabbit in the moon.

“Yesterday I inhaled a cloud, and immediately my eyes started raining.”

  1. Great advice from Cee. I hope you have an opportunity to get some shots with your new camera on the next full moon. I do love the first shot with the miniature lights wrapped around the palm in the foreground. Those blue sky shots are incredible! 🙂

  4. These are brilliant images all round, Marsha. You did very well with your moon shots despite your lens. You worked with what you got, and I liked how the ghostly moon turned out round, yellow and glowy. The softness surrounding your moon photo makes it all the more peaceful, comforting and welcoming. Also really enjoyed the sunrise shot. It’s almost as if the sun can’t wait to spring out into the sky and greet us all. Hope you are well and take care 🙂

    1. Mabel, what a lovely comment. Your words could easily become a poem. Here’s a quick 3-2-3 Haiku from your words.

    1. Thanks, Deb. I loved the moon quote, too. Using quotes has now become a regular part of my blog posts. I have a broad choice of intelligent sayings from someone who has said something so much more concisely than I can say it. It then guides my thinking, which has, by osmosis, become more brilliant. 🙂 LOL! 🙂

Just lovely to see and read “always look up”…we humans need to detach from the mini and small (worries too) and look UP far more often. So many stories from the skies.

It was a bit exciting seeing my name come up here too Marsha!

  11. Lovely moon shots, Marsha and those skies! So you use a short lens for the moon? I’ve always tried with my long lens 🙄

    Liked by 1 person

    1. How did that come out? First of all, it’s hard to hold the lens still if it’s very long. I’m going to try it soon with my new Sony and see if I get better results. 🙂

      1. The ones I posted were all taken with a long lens, some came out better thsn others.

        1. Interesting point, Cathy. You must have a good lens. What I got from Cee is that because of the make-up of the lens I had, less light got through. I have yet to try night shots with my new camera, and I don’t have a long lens on it.

  12. First of all, thank you for your kind words, Marsha! Isn’t it wonderful to learn from excellent photographers like Cee and others? The best thing about moon or night photography is to try and fail and hopefully get the one fab shot that makes your day! And you did! Love that quote about the moon, too!

Sorry, I was so taken by the colours, I didn’t notice anything else… but Superman is clearly there! I’m always seeing things in the clouds; I can’t believe I missed this one! 😊🤣
