Since today’s choice of #WQWWC is Writer’s Choice, I’m going to do the same thing I did last time, and tie my post to another challenge or two or three.

This week the four regular Lens Artists are on break and their guest artist is Dianne Milliard with this week’s challenge. Her photography is outstanding AND she’s in the wilderness. I hope she brought some lunch from home because there sure aren’t any restaurants in these pictures. You should see the photo she took from her bedroom window. She’s a park ranger.

The Writer’s Quote’s Wednesday’s original topic for this week was friendship, so if you’d rather write about that, feel free to do so. Because, after all, isn’t forming friendships a big part of what we are trying to do with our blogs?

Maybe you get inspired by photos, like I do, use mine or weave magical tales, real or imaginary, around your own pictures.

The only rule is to use at least one quote in your post.

Kings Canyon National Park

“Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature’s peace will flow into you as sunshine into trees.”

John Muir

Living near the Sequoia National Park and seeing the Sierra Nevada Mountains every day from our home spoiled us. Rarely did we drive up the winding highways, often to fight crowds of soul searchers exploring inside the parks. However, in July, 2017 after the huge spring floods, we wanted to see the consequences of the heavy rains.

    1. Thank you Colleen. Thanks so much for including a couple of my poems in your book. I am so honored. I am starting to make some sense of the differences between the kinds of poetry. They are a little easier to write now that I understand. 🙂

  9. Oh, those things that troll has witnessed, and the stories in his stone ears 😀
Yes there is power in any storm. Our latest spring storm knocked down over 70-80 old trees in a local park that had to close to the public for clean up.

I am indeed spoiled too by my view out of my picture window… and the wildlife nature shares with me.
    Cheers, Jules.

    1. We had, and have here nature fairly close, but not so that it crashes into our windows or anything. In AZ we have bobcats, mountain lions and javelina roaming around in our back yards. So you never see neighborhood cats out loose. Back in CA we had the same things, but you never saw them, but there were tons of cats. 🙂

Loved your last haiku, Marsha. It really captures the vision of a stroll up a mountain stream. The troll is great! Mountain spirits. I have a whole series of photos from the old film days taken in Hawaii with spirit faces. I didn’t see them when I took the photos, but they were there when the film was developed! Thanks for sharing.

    1. Isn’t that cool. Developing film was such an art. My dad had a darkroom and one f my greatest joys was to help him develop pictures and watch as they magically appeared on the paper. I loved the smell, the red light, the fact that it was something my dad and I both enjoyed doing together, and, of course, the product. Precious times. Thanks for a wonderful challenge. Do you know Dana Kierkes https://www.facebook.com/dana.dierkes.9? She was stationed in the Sequoia National Park for a while, then moved east to a different National Park. Great lady.

  20. Perfect timing again for your writer’s choice quotes for WQW, Marsha! My link will show Sunday when I post for Celestial! I dearly love that quote from John Muir (I love ALL his quotes and have a couple of books where I could just make my own quotes). I will always remember our short drive and photo op date to the south end of Sequoia NP last year. How amazing to have lived so close to inspiring places and spaces. I just got internet back (our satellite was knocked off the beam’s trajectory due to high winds) and was fixed this afternoon. I may be off WP for a couple of days as we prep and take a road trip to Portland for my cousin’s funeral this weekend. Hope you are staying cool in this ridiculous heat–it was 92 here today in the mountains!

    1. I’m so sorry for the loss of your cousin, Terri. How sad. Were you close? Portland is having record heat waves. I know we are both used to heat, but poor Portland, they have yet another issue. I hope they get some rain to cool things down and prevent the fires from starting up.

It was in the 80s here. It’s 73 right now. We played pickleball this morning before it got too hot. I think I twisted my knee, so I came home, took a Tylenol and slept for an hour or so during the heat of the day.

You and your internet fiascos. You are going to have to write a short book about the difficulties of internet. We have been so lucky with our internet provider here in Prescott. It is tons faster than what we had in California, and we tried everything.

Have a safe trip to OR, and I’ll see you on Sunday Stills.

      1. Jeff was my cousin’s husband on my mom’s side. They lived in San Diego then moved to Tigard in the 90s. He felt more like a brother in law than a cousin in law. I’m glad you didn’t get too hot playing. I think the whole west is under a heat advisory. By the weekend the PNW is in the 60s and low 70s.
