This Sunday morning I wanted to welcome you to the week through Colleen’s Tanka Tuesday theme prompt – pick a flower!
Precious Poppies
Traditional Haibun © 2021 Marsha Ingrao
Golden beauties glow Catching sunlight in petals Close at night to store
We thought we’d have to leave behind our glorious California flower when we moved to Prescott, Arizona.
Lining the entrance Gold poppies welcome us home Beaming, cheery spring
The previous owners in our condo planted these carefree smile-makers. Their upstairs neighbors hated them glowing at the bottom of the stairs, and sprayed them with weed-killer.
Persistent joyful Overcoming obstacles to garner more sun.
“Who hates a flower?” said Mark, the new neighbor upstairs when he heard the grumpy story. The sour one is gone. Precious poppies survived to reign over the dry earth with the glee of victory.

Also posted for Cee’s FOTD.

Why I Chose the Haibun
A journalist at heart, the Haibun gives me the chance to explain the back story.
Tip: Editing Pictures without Photoshop
This morning I read the list of block types. Editing pictures is a snap. Last month, for Becky B’s BrightSquare Challenge, I struggled to make pictures exactly square in Photoshop Elements 15. I would get between 1-10 pixels off unless it luckily snapped into place. With the block editor you don’t even have to try.
It did not add a watermark and when I cropped it, the old watermark was either cut in half or disappeared.

Thank you, Cindy. I’m going to buy Colleen’s new book on poetry in the next day or two. I love writing the poems and I need to find out more about how to improve them. 🙂

Some years I’ve tried planting the seeds – And only some years they work! A lovely flower.
(PS I sent you an email…)

I’ve done seeds. It’s a mixed bag, too. At least you don’t spend a fortune on plants that the bugs and birds eat. Generally you have more than an army can eat. Did you read April’s Story Chat? It’s about a gardener written by Doug Jacquier. https://tchistorygal.net/2021/04/06/april-story-chat-miniature-planet/ I think you will appreciate it. I’ll check out my emails again. I’m excited about yours and Colleen’s new journal. I’m not sure exactly what that means, but I’m interested to find out. 🙂

Fun read left a comment for you and Doug at the post. 😀
Syllabic verses just means one has to pay attention to the counts of syllables of various forms. Other than that Word Weaving is a poetry journal. The theme will be out May 15th. 😀

I’m looking forward to it. I won’t get to it on the 15th but I’ll check it out that week for sure!

Those poppies are so cheerful with their apricot-colored smiles! Well done, Marsha. I’m glad the poppies outlived the upstairs neighbors. LOL! ❤

Thank, Colleen. I’m glad they did, too. Thanks for teaching about syllabic poetry. I use a touch of cinquain here and there sprinkled throughout my posts often now. It’s fun to do. I can see why you love it so much. It’s a challenge, but not exhausting. 🙂
