Prescott Car Show #3: Red Cars and Trucks
Red cars and trucks far out numbered all the other colors. It’s my favorite color, so I was thrilled. Vince is not as crazy about red so he only took one picture of a red car while I had about twenty.
Red Car Owner’s Nightmare

The year was 1958, my dad and I had gone to the store to get last minute things for Christmas dinner. There was a string of traffic twenty cars long on the two lane highway between our house and the store.
Dad got more and more agitated as he passed car after car. When he got to the head of the line, ready to pass the final car, he said something naughty. I looked over to see his mother, my grandma, bravely driving 20 miles an hour in a bright red beauty like the one below. She had just learned to drive. We could almost hear Grandpa yelling at her to slow down.

Why Fire Engines are Red

The sky was just beginning to darken and cool down. Vince and I had each wandered comfortably in our own directions taking pictures of the cars and trucks we liked best.
He called me to say he was ready for lunch. So I told him to meet me at the fire truck, which he did. When he didn’t show, I called him back, thinking he was pulling a trick on me.

You probably guessed what happened. Neither of us had seen both trucks.

As I neared the 1931 model fire truck, we put our coats back on, zipped up as the wind picked up, and walked back to our car. I never told him that the 1951 fire engine was for sale, $18,000 or best offer.

The car show was our exciting weekend adventure last weekend besides finishing the Netflix Series The 4400. Vince, the sci-fi fan in the family, got tired of it, but I watched it all. Has anyone else seen it?
What Exciting things are you planning for this weekend?

you mean you could have been the proud owners of a fire truck, and you passed on the opportunity? 🙂 Enjoyed the story of your grandmother learning to drive…

We could have, but where would we have put it? Our condo parking lot, maybe. It would look like someone was always dying here. Not a good look! LOL. Driving with Dad, who always wanted to be first in line made it quite an unforgettable experience, passing cars on a busy two lane highway. He griped after every pass about who in the world was holding up that much traffic. The joke was on him when he found out. 🙂

I don’t attend many, but I do think that car shows are fun. The best one I ever saw was in Watkins Glen, NY … so many vintage cars, including race cars. I’m not a car enthusiast, but that was an interesting moment. Cheers to your collection of red.
