March 1st marks the first day celebrating Women’s History Month. What better topic to consider than Citizenship when we learn about women in history.
Congress started authorizing Womenโs History Month in 1987.
โSince 1995, each president has issued annual proclamations designating the month of March as โWomenโs History Month.โ
Womenโs History.Org.
It took some civic action to make that happen. Here is a video talking about the civic process it took to get it passed.
The Womenโs History Month annual theme for 2021 is “Valiant Women of the Vote: Refusing to Be Silenced.

The Suffragettes and their famous role in allowing women the right to vote for public officials could provide you with a plethora of quotes. There are hundreds of women whose names youโve probably never heard. Below is one I’d never known.
โA government which can protect and defend its citizens from wrong and outrage and does not is vicious. A government which would do it and cannot is weak; and where human life is insecure through either weakness or viciousness in the administration of law, there must be a lack of justice and where this is wanting, nothing can make up the deficiency.โ

Three of My Favorite Quotes
“Perhaps it is our mission to make clear that hate destroys and that love can bring wholeness to mankind.”
Anna Arnold Hedgeman
โOne person plus one typewriter constitutes a movement.โ
Pauli Murray
“When unique voices are united in a common cause, they make history.”
Gloria Steinem
As a blogger I live by these three quotes. I have the right to vote, but as a blogger, I own a “typewriter” and have the opportunity every time I open my computer to make myself known. And so do you. As a community of bloggers, we can make a difference in our world. And that is citizenship.

I hope you will join in the fun of finding quotes and responding to them this month starting with todayโs topic, Citizenship.

Only if you want to step out and do something frightening. However, I don’t think anything great happens unless we are willing to take sacrifices which may be painful. When those sacrifices are thrust on us, so much the more power we have.
