With winter still in full swing in the northern hemisphere, Terri from Sunday Stills wanted to challenge us all to look at and photograph objects that are the color white. If you live in or around snow, then show us your snowy scenes. If not, the color white is all around us.

Grandma was a stickler for bright white laundry. I remember her adding bluing to her wash when all sheets and towels were white and men wore white shirts. Using bleach alone turned her whites increasingly yellow.

Where I could, I found pictures with blue the skies to brighter the whites. Did it work?

SNOW

It must descend, as the dew, upon the tender herb, or like melting flakes of snow; the softer it falls, the longer it dwells upon, and the deeper it sinks into the mind.

WHITE FLIGHT IN AUSTRALIA

It may be hard for an egg to turn into a bird: it would be a jolly sight harder for it to learn to fly while remaining an egg. We are like eggs at present. And you cannot go on indefinitely being just an ordinary, decent egg. We must be hatched or go bad.

  1. I remember growing up – the little old ladies in my town adding bluing to their hair to keep it bright white. If they overdid it they had this blue purple sheen! Guess I will keep my white just natural!

    1. You and me too, Bernie. No bluing for me!

  2. Ah, I’m listening to the uplifting piano piece as I examine your photos and absorb your words.

    1. Isn’t it fabulous, Charli? I listened for a very long time, too. I’m finding that if I take the time to read comments and respond, a normal 4 minute video runs out on me. I thought it would be better to have one that you stop playing when you want to stop. 🙂

  3. I’m jealous of how organized you ar with your writing. I still have no idea what I am going to write about today…

    1. I started out writing about my daily experiences, Jim. Then I kept running into technical problems, so I blogged about those. Then I tried to write a novel, so I blogged about that. Through It all I’ve loved the challenges, particularly the photo challenges. So I started interviewing people who did them. That turned into a permanent thing for me. And I kept on following even more challenges. Finally Hugh and I started chatting about him doing a guest post for me. He offered to do a Halloween story. That turned into a regular feature, Story Chat. Then Colleen asked me to host Writer’s Quotes Wednesdays, which had not been active for about four years. That hasn’t been too popular as a challenge, but it seems that people want to read it and respond. So I’m debating. It has taught me to use more quotes in my writing, and less of me. I think that’s a good thing to combine the two of them. The thing is that you can write as much or little as you want. It’s your blog. You were a teacher, you can write about your experiences, your advice, or your subject matter, your special interests. Anything goes, it’s your blog. You can read someone else’s blog and see a great post that you love and reblog it or ask them to write a guest post for you, or collaborate on a post like I did with Lisa. There are so many possibilities and they all have YOUR name on them. ! 🙂

    1. I wonder what ever happened to it? Did it work? I don’t remember her sheets being particularly sparkling, but then she NEVER threw anything away. She moved all of her fifty-year-old sheets when she moved in with my mom when she was 80. LOL

  5. Hi Marsha, as usual, your posts are fun, positive and nail the theme on the head in a grand way! I giggled at your huge patch of snow. We barely have any left after the 3-4 inches we got when I took all those photos a week ago! Temps made it into the 50s as this is the first day of meteorological spring! And I have spring fever so badly I resigned from that part-time job after two weeks. It wasn’t for me after all and I long to be retired! thanks for sharing the links and building community and I’m so happy you met Natalie! She is such a huge inspiration for fitness! If I lived close to her, I would be in tip-top shape! Darling pic of Puppy Girl!

          4. I’ve ordered a harness and leash for my cat, Nutter Butter that should come tomorrow. I’m tired of the cats lying around all day and getting up to play and dig up my carpet all night. Vince and I are taking turns sleeping at night.

          5. 🤣🤣🤣 I’m laughing only others that read with will think we’re crazy but then they might not have cats,, 🤣Oh I’m feeling your pain. I use harnesses and leashes on mine too. It either slows them down of stops them in their tracks. Plus with the coyotes out I can control where they go! 💖. Good luck, be patient. It takes awhile to get.

  8. Fun post! Those of us who don’t live where it snows (not that I’m sad about that) had to get creative. I love your choice of quotes, especially the one from C.S. Lewis. And, yay!, you used the slider thingie!

  9. Precious photo of PG with her little paw up. Oh, bluing. I remember it in a bottle. Wonder if I can still buy it. I love my sheets, but they are getting more and more yellow. Thanks for the fun. I do wonder how many hour/week you spend on these blogs.

    1. Right now a lot. I had to self-quarantine because of the COVID test. Then they were unable to get any results, so they advise more self-quarantine. I have a COVID shot on Wed. then I figure I’ll be good to go. We did get out for a few walks and to have wine with our neighbors. But basically, right now, I stay home much of the time. 🙂

    1. I did that when we first moved to CA and were poor and it seemed a shame to waste all that great August sunshine. The grass had been burned under the clothesline, and I did not count on such a strong wind. You know what happened, I’m sure, I quit worrying about wasting sunshine. 🙂

    1. Thank you, Natalie. Her name is Kalev, which means dog in Hebrew – long story. We call her Puppy Girl or PG or Peegeeweegee. She comes to anything really. She’s almost 12 now and doesn’t look as sparkly, but is our sweetie pie. 🙂
