Celebration takes on a new look for most of us this year with the continued persistence of COVID 19. As I read your blogs, I see resiliency, hope, and joy as you plan your celebrations for the holidays.

What is your celebration going to be like this year? Will you stay safe? Will you worship at church or at home? Will you decorate?

Below are several quotes that inspire me to rejoice this holiday season in spite or maybe even because of COVID 19.

“The holiest of holidays are those kept by ourselves in silence and apart; The secret anniversaries of the heart.”

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Thank you Patti Moed for sharing this in your Lens-Artist Holiday post .

The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate. ”

Oprah Winfrey

“Celebration is forgetting oneself. … When we are always enthusiastic, happy and surrendered to God, life becomes a blissful celebration.”

Amma (There are several references to Amma (Mother) in Wikipedia. I’m not sure which Amma said the quote above.

“Life is passion, celebration in the face of chaos, light in the face of darkness, hope in the face of despair, and joy, for the universe without life feels nothing, is nothing, and does nothing except slowly die.”

A beautiful and thoughtful post Marsha. Yes our celebrations will be very different this year. We have dinner with our very small pod for Christmas Eve and zoom calls with family for Christmas tomorrow. I went for lobster for dinner tomorrow so that my husband and I will feel a bit more festive! For a look at our previous Christmases, I’m including a link to my post here https://travelsandtrifles.wordpress.com/2020/12/19/lens-artists-challenge-128-here-comes-the-holiday-season/

Thank you for sharing, Tina. The first photo puts me in the celebration mode for Christmas. The second reminds me of my Jewish friend, Elane Geller, a holocaust survivor who passed away this year. She was an amazing link to another culture for me as she was Polish, and spoke at least 7 or 8 languages. Thanks for including the second photo. 🙂 I hope you are enjoying your lobster. 🙂 Merry Christmas, Tina. 🙂

It will just be my husband and me celebrating together… and that’s fine. We’ll make a nice dinner and relax (that doesn’t sound too bad, does it?). Hopefully next year we’ll be able to travel again. Best wishes to you for a lovely Christmas!

Christmas is so different this year. Both of our families are about a 3-hour drive in different directions. We won’t be road warriors this year. We are in our church’s handbell choir, so Christmas Eve is a long evening for us – playing two services – but a joyous one. However, not this year. We haven’t rehearsed in a month – and services will be outdoors (brrrr) and probably short. Temps are dropping so time will tell if we go. So, we will make the best of Christmas Day – just the two of us. Must find something to watch. Zoom call set for the next day. … just going on because you asked. Best holiday wishes to you and yours … Merry Christmas.

Thanks for your lovely response, Frank. I used to be in a bell choir. That’s a lot of work, but worth it! Our church here is meeting inside for Christmas Eve, do we will go. Have a wonderful Christmas.

Cheers to fellow bell ringer. Yep – a lot of work … Amazing to see the super talented choirs play. Yep – we saw the Raleigh Ringers in concert. Amazing. Here’s a commission piece we did about 5 years ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yOGSXAW2mZc&t=21s

We will definitely have a better New Year, Marsha. Love the quotes and the idea of celebrating with small pods of family this year as a “normal” condition for 2020. I went to a cookie party yesterday and was so happy to spend the day with my family and nieces. Feels a little more festive now!

I love your picture of the Christmas trees, Marsha. I have built an entire gingerbread and chocolate festive village for Christmas and we have done some decorating. The village took up the Christmas tree space so I’ve left that this year.

That’s amazingly creative, Roberta. When I taught fourth grade, we made gingerbread houses. I never realized how hard it was to get the sides to stand up on their own. The frosting was everything. 🙂
