There are some TV shows that I could watch over and over and over. During this pandemic and while I’ve been forced to be more inactive due to my cancer treatment, I’ve watched several TV series from beginning to end multiple times. Call the Midwife, is one of those shows.
It’s hard to articulate all of the reasons why I love Call the Midwife. The fact that the focus of the show is mainly on midwives who work with and support women laboring to bring their babies into the world is a big reason. The fact that nuns are part of the storyline and their commitment to the “religious life” is front and center in a humanized and poignant way is definitely another. The fact that the storyline is true is certainly a big part of it. The fact that the show depicts the horrific affects of poverty, racism…
with 3 out of 4 of my babies born at home and teaching pre and postnatal birth and exercise coaching; and being at their births… I have yet to see it. Thanks it’s on my list.. thanks for the courage you exude and rec Marsha!
Love Call the Midwife cos my mom was head nurse on a baby floor who was very pro-choice, and opened up great chat with my DIL from the UK about women’s agency over our own bodies.
There is a lot of controversy. My mother and I had some of those conversations. I never got pregnant, so I never had to personally make a choice. It’s hard to know what one would do in those circumstances. The extreme poverty and unsafe conditions on the show, illustrated how difficult the decisions were.
The way I was raised was to believe that every child should be wanted and planned, so that’s why I had the one and he was planned. I knew I’d be good with that so it worked for me.
Hi, I'm Marsha Ingrao, a retired educator and wife of a retired realtor. My all-consuming hobby is blogging and it has changed my life. My friends live all over the world. In November 2020, we sold everything and retired to the mile-high desert of Prescott, AZ. We live less than five miles from the Granite Dells, four lakes, and hundreds of trails with our dog, Kalev, and two cats, Moji and Nutter Butter. Vince's sister came with us and lives close by. Every day is a new adventure.

It’s a tough one for sure, but my belief is that it’s MY decision about what to do with my body.

Yes, and the potential child inside. I don’t think a rapist has any right, for sure. Fortunately, it is not a choice I have to make.
