May Dreams Gardens Garden Photo Challenge

Australia #12

There is nothing as pretty as some of the flowers I found at the Healesville Sanctuary when I went with Leanne, her friend Suzanne and Carol. I wish I knew the names to share with you, but maybe someone will slip in and rescue my ignorance.

Maybe I felt hot and this reminded me of snow. Or maybe it was like blowing on dandelions, which I did as a child. (My dad must have loved that!) I could actually draw some of these random patterns. I love the hazy, spider webby, x-ray quality of this photo.

These Australian gum nut gems have special stories about them, the Snugglepot and Cuddlepie series by May Gibbs.

I love the calligraphy/centipede-style flower. Isn’t it stunning?

Healesville flowers These Australian fruits quickly dried and fell off in the warm summer weather. They look like raisins when dried, but these fruits do not look like grapes to me.

These brilliant leaf buds look like they are swimming in a watercolor sea.

      It was an exotic place. The most exotic place I’ve probably ever been in my life. Very tropical. Lovely. 🙂

      Australia is a beautiful place. You would love it. The people are pretty environmentally conscientious, too. At least Carol and her husband are. 🙂

        Haha marvelous Marsha! I have wanted to live there since I saw a documentary about it when I was three. I wanted to go to Queensland Uni and haunt Tasmania as frequently as possible. The obsession continues. Aussie…I can just imagine it. I am so glad you got to go and see it for yourself. Carol and her husband sound grand. I know Leanne is blasted groovy!! TOO wonderful. 😀

          It was blasted groovy, right! Did you read my Loo story? That was probably the funniest thing that happened during the entire trip. I showed the picture to my friend Margaret, and she puzzled over it just like I had. About 3-4 minutes after we moved along in the slide show, she came back to it and said, “I’m just trying to figure out how they would do it.” That was my problem exactly! We laughed so hard. 🙂

      Thank you Jo. I followed Carol and Leanne around. Carol had her nose in the plants the whole trip. I looked to see what fascinated her so much and click. I got one too. We did not have to share pictures. I probably took over 1,500 pictures easily. Australia is a beautiful place. 🙂 Thanks for the nice comment, Jo. 🙂

      I love that comment. The way you said it sounds so Australian. Good on ya! 🙂 I just loved Australia, the wonderful people I met who spent time showing me its attributes and its uniquely Australian brand of English. I had so much fun. It was an experience of a lifetime.

      Thanks Kev. I love my Tamron lens. I think it goes from 70 to 280 so I can get a good macro shot if I don’t get too close. If I get too close, it can’t decide on what to focus automatically. My eyes are bad so I can’t focus well automatically. 🙂 Thanks again for the kind words.

        Bit techy for me when it comes to cameras Marsha. zoom, point, shoot with a good doze of auto is the limit to my knowledge and camera skills. 😀

            The new cameras are amazing. They take a fairly high quality picture. You can tell the difference, of course, but for web work they are fine. They do video, slow motion, panoramas and much more! They are an instant podcast machine! 🙂

      Aren’t they adorable. I got some gorgeous flowers and plant pictures. I wish I knew the names of everything. I took some notes, but not enough. 🙂

    Nice close ups. The red flower is a grevillea and the orange flowers in the last photo are kangaroo paws.
