Promote Others: One Successful Blogger Shows How

Successful Bloggers Promote Others

I’ve been wondering how many times you should promote others in a post. As I researched a group of expert listings from Janice Wald’s new book , I found the perfect number of times to promote others.

Read to learn how to do it. Want to know the answer?

Successful bloggers promote each other.

Before I tell you the answer I’ll share my research notes.

Use Expert Research to Promote Others

Below is the page from my Transformational Blogging Journal that I used as I read Janice Wald’s new book, An Insider’s Guide to Building a Successful Blog: Tips and tricks from the creator of Mostly Blogging.

Strutting his stuff in Pismo Beach, CA.

I did one thing wrong, though. I did not copy a quote from every blog into my journal. That is very important when you journal.

Blogging not about strutting your own stuff. Neither is journaling.

The quotes of others are as more important than what you I think. It took me about two-three hours to collect this information. If I am going to promote others like Daniela, it will take me another hour to pick out the quotes I need.

To be fair, I got sidetracked. A blogger I read convince me to apply to BlogHer because they have 80+ million viewers. To be honest, I want to go pro with my blog. So I read with a purpose.

Bonus Tip

When you read non-fiction, you read for a purpose. Often you skim and skip around looking for words that fit your purpose.

(Couldn’t help that tip – I’m a teacher – remember?)

Notes on 13 Blogs Janice Wald Promoted

  1. Blog.VideoFruit.com This guy, Bryan Harris is 30 and so energetic and positive he exudes success. He makes videos of people’s stories. I love it! I think it is something I need to learn how to do better. He also does coaching.
  2. ThisTalkAintCheap.com This is interesting. It’s a personal blog, like my Streaming Thoughts, but Carolyn West sells advertising space on it, so it’s self-hosted. It’s clean and full of recipes and parenting advice. On her contract page, she tells what she will and won’t do for advertisers. That sounds simple. It takes a long time to load on my slow internet.
  3. MentalBreakInProgress.wordpress.com The website is no longer operating. The blogger still had some good advice for Janice.
  4. TheRogersPost.com This website doesn’t exist either.
  5. TheStoryReadingApeBlog.com – This is my friend Chris Graham. He promotes authors and answers all my questions about technology and media with a post he has on his blog. He’s all over social media, too. He will retweet you or answer you on Linked In. If you blog or write, you need Chris.
  6. I wonder where Corinne got the name for her blog. The first article I read was a simple one about keeping your home comfortable and clean. She is involved with Blogher. I was not sure what Blogher is. (Please don’t laugh at me the one with her head in the sand of current trends.) I clicked on NaBloPoMo – blogging every day in Nov. I could do that!

EverydayGyaan.com – “ABOUT CORINNE RODRIGUES A lover of words. A self-acceptance blogger. A blogging coach. A book reviewer. A social media activist. A woman happily journeying through midlife, moving from self-improvement to self-acceptance and enjoying being herself. Corinne writes at Everyday Gyaan, reviews books, and shares thoughts at CorinneRodrigues.com and encourages writers and bloggers at Write Tribe. I think this is a killer introduction to who she is and what she does.”

  7. Because of Corinne, I went directly to Google and got the web address of BlogHer/Life Well Said That site took me to The BlogHer.com Community Platform Is Moving to SheKnows! I submitted my form to do NaBoPoMo. Now I’m entered into the 2016 NaBloPoMo sweepstakes. Whoopee! SheKnows reaches 81 million women. Julie Ross Godar Executive Editorial Director, SheKnows Media @honeybeast.
  8. CoachDebbieRuns.com This is a running website meaning that Coach Debbie actually runs. I like adverbs, by the way. Debbie’s website is for sportspeople.
  9. DanielaUslan.com First of all, Daniela is knock-dead gorgeous. Secondly, she is a blogging coach and has testimonials from people who have gone from amazing to successful bloggers. As an instructional coach, I know the power of coaching to make a difference in a person’s life. Her writing posts have several thousand shares. How to find your writer’s voice had 19K shares. Now it has 19K+1. That’s not views, those are shares. She has share buttons at the top, bottom, and end of her post. The infographic is simple, a colorful quilt with quotes from different blog posts. Then underneath those same quotes link to the actual blog post by the original author. I only knew a couple of the writers, but it is not like there are only a few authors in the world. The ones I did know are excellent. Her blog rates many more visits from me.
  10. SEO-writer.com This professional team from Canada offer important services including ghost-writing. The primary service is all about SEO as the blog title indicates.
  11. DGKayeWriter.com Another Canadian offers herself and her story. She writes memoirs. Ooh, I love memoirs. At a quick glance, I don’t think she is selling anything except her five books. She seems delightful. My friend Terri Webster Schrandt commented on her blog, so she’s got to be great, right?
  12. EricSchlehlein.com Eric writes history. TC History Gal (that’s me) has to love this guy. “Eric has dedicated more than half of his life to serving others, first as a caregiver and group home manager for the developmentally disabled, the emotionally disturbed, and the mentally ill, and has now served his community via the local fire department for more than a decade.” from his About page. He wrote about his 66 rejection slips and his search for a publisher. The heart of this post was encouraging other authors not to give up.
  13. GrowMap.com I like her short bio. She has lots of buttons for sharing her posts on social media. They move with you as you scroll down. It costs nothing to share a post you like on Twitter or Pinterest. I am not as crazy about sharing on Facebook.

“Gail Gardner is the founder of GrowMap.com. She is a Small Business Content Marketing Strategist connecting influencers and providing results. After 23 years in the field with IBM and 5.5 years managing AdWords accounts, her focus shifted to small business content marketing strategy. GrowMap.com is listed by Cision as a Top 100 Site for Marketers and has received three Small Business Influencer Awards from Small Business Trends. Named by D&B a Top 50 SMB Influencer on Twitter, you can follow Gail @GrowMap and on LinkedIn.”

Hi Dianne, Thanks for checking it out! I’m doing three posts all together on the links from one of her chapters. I’m struggling to get through her book because a read a few sentences, and think, OM gosh, I haven’t done that! I’d better do it before I forget. Or I copy a line into my journal so I will go back and do it. Every page has a copy and paste note. I’m usually a fast reader! 🙂 How are you doing? Any luck that you will be anywhere near Queensland when I come Dec. 28-Jan 16?

Actually Carol and I are going to Melbourne on Dec. 29th to see Leanne Cole. We are staying there several days, going to Ballarat and coming back on January 6, I think to Brisbane for a few days, then to Toowamba, where she lives. 🙂 I leave Australia Jan. 16.
