Visalia Taste of the Arts: How to Create a Veggie Masterpiece

Day 24 Ultimate Blog Challenge #blogboost #oddballphotochallenge

Cee's OddBall

Visalia Taste of the Arts has grown to ten times the number of vendors it had three years ago from 10 to 100 under my friend’s daughter, Carolyn Koontz’s administration. She now moves to a new job at Tulare County Office of Education. Congratulations, Carolyn!

Here are some of the more interesting Taste of the Arts.

Veggie Critter

Cuke, the Veggie Critter

Anyone could participate. Kids dug out holes for eye placement, attached all types of hair, legs, and other body parts. Interesting that most shapes ended up being some kind of “animal.”

Green teeth – no problem. They’re bound to fall out anyway.

This gives all new meaning to “We’re having octopus for dinner!”

or

“Who’s coming for dinner?”

Steps to a Masterpiece

  1. Grab a big veggie.
  2. Grab a carving or poking tool.
  3. Stick veggies on sticks.
  4. Poke sticks into veggies.
  5. Carve holes.
  6. Attach little veggies to bigger ones with aย toothpick or by stuffing into holes.
  7. Display your artwork at the front table when finished.
  8. Take pictures.

  1. These are very cute! Looks like a great fun activity. The pictures are giving me some fun ideas to practice at home with our four year old.

I am wondering if the first picture is of a cuke or a bitter mellon? It looks more like a bitter mellon but I could be wrong.

Thank you for sharing ideas of Veggie Masterpiece. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • I am not sure, but I thought it was a cuke. However, I am no expert, having never heard of a bitter mellon! ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m so thrilled that you can use the ideas. The kids loved the activity.

Hi, I'm Marsha Ingrao, a retired educator and wife of a retired realtor. My all-consuming hobby is blogging and it has changed my life. My friends live all over the world. In November 2020, we sold everything and retired to the mile-high desert of Prescott, AZ. We live less than five miles from the Granite Dells, four lakes, and hundreds of trails with our dog, Kalev, and two cats, Moji and Nutter Butter. Vince's sister came with us and lives close by. Every day is a new adventure.
