As I have researched for Because of Blogging and for Transformational Blogging, I hear lots of stories about what happened to bloggers as a result of their blog. Here is my question for you today.
When you started blogging, where did you think the blogging experience would lead you?
Follow-up Question
Where has blogging led you and how has it changed your life?

I never thought I’d be taking photos, Marsha – so I guess this was one thing that surprised me about blogging. I’ve learned a lot about the world and how other people live. It’s been a great experience! (but very time consuming) 😀

I agree on both accounts. I’m so glad you took it up. You tell about your pictures in such an interesting way! 🙂 BTW I saw one of Carol’s pictures yesterday of the area near where you live. How beautiful the coastline. 🙂

It’s an absolutely beautiful place! Unfortunately we couldn’t get our timing right and they were late coming off the boat so I missed her 😦

Curses on the big waves that stopped us from meeting up. The captain was debating whether he would even put the tenders in the water and by the time he decided to go ahead it was too late. If you are ever in Brisbane or thereabouts Dianne make sure you let me know.

Initially I was hoping that blogging would bring me and my sisters closer. We live pretty far away from each other. The first blog I started was suppose to be a way to communicate with each other, sharing stories, recipes and photos of the the family. It didn’t last long. So I started a new blog for me. It’s like a personal journal of my life and my work. Everyone in my family and friends know everything about me but I still don’t know much about them. I know this because when we get together they tell me how they’ve followed me on my weight loss journey or how much they like my photographs. Now I blog for my blogging friends who follow me and comment on my posts. Someday I hope to actually meet some of them in person.
I’ve discovered through blogging that I have a pretty good eye for photography. I’ve learned a lot about other cultures and countries all around the world. People who blog are also very supportive of my artistic endeavours and I much appreciate their support and helpful critiques.

Hi MVBFM 😀
Four years ago I used to spend a lot of time on a Spanish expat forum and needed some way to expand my thoughts about the little things in my life. WordPress was my first choice for a blog and even after four years I am still learning. Over time the blog evolved into my crazy life with two cats, a China Cat, cuckoo clock & rubbish bin under the sink, all talking. I have had two bloggers stay with me, one from London and the other a blogging teddy bear from California. My posts can take me up to 2 days to draft, so I publish once a fortnight now which gives me some time off from my laptop. Maybe one day if I ever give up blogging I may become sane again 😉 ❤

MFR, You have changed my life, and the blogging Teddy bear’s life also. You have affected many bloggers across the blogosphere. Your blog has a personality that shines. It surprised me when I read your guest post on Janice Wald’s blog, though. Sometimes I think you are my personal best friend blogger buddy. Surprise, surprise, there are tons of others just like me who think the same thing! You have built a true community. Many of my faithful readers come directly from your comment roll. When I started blogging I had trouble reading very many blogs because I spent so much time not only reading your blog, but every comment from every person. Their responses made me laugh. I have gotten away from that since those first months of blogging bliss, but recently people have started liking my comments on your blog. So I go visit them. I’m reading a French blog right now, who is a new blogger. I had to come over here to my blog to answer her and remembered that you said you were stuck in my spam folder. Sure enough. There you are. I really don’t know what is up with that. I’m not even sure who to write to in order to get some help. Any ideas? Not having you respond on my blog is not an acceptable solution.
Back to your comment. I hope you do not bother with sanity if it means giving up your blog. 🙂 Thanks for the lovely comment, MFR. Please do not stop. You are always welcome no matter what weird thing WP is doing. xox

I had no idea what blogging would be like. I almost didn’t do it. I didn’t think I could write and really, who would be interested in what I had to say. I am so glad I did, it has been an incredible experience and led me to meet some amazing people around the world, including you. I think, for the most part, it has been very positive.

You have made it very positive, Leanne. You had to come down kind of hard on people who commented in negative ways. Your honesty and humble way of writing have captured the hearts of so many. Topped with your great photographs and your willingness to help everyone, you have created a great space on the internet. 🙂

I don’t bog about blogging, so I don’t have any links to answer this, that I can think of. However, folks are welcome to visit my site, anyway. 😀
I began blogging with the understanding that to be a published book writer, I had to have a blog site and a large following. I did a lot of what folks said I should do and spend a LOT–a LOT of money.
I expected to be published by now.
Instead:
1. Instant success comes to those who do NOTHING but blog and market their blog, all day.
2. I ran out of money.
3. I never had time to finish the book, althouh I probably have written about 400,000 words on my blog.
4. I don’t know how to stop.
5. People keep wanting more money.
Not fun, but blogging is okay, I guess. 🙂

I hear you, Katherine. I think we hear that we need to blog if we are going to publish. I certainly thought that as well. I would love to follow up this conversation by email or chat. You clearly have had some experiences that have not all been positive. There is a really good article that helped me not to feel the pressure to post quite so often, so that you have more time to finish your book. Let’s chat. 🙂 https://smartblogger.com/posting-every-day/.

Hi Marsha,
I am not very long into my blogging journey. I hoped that I could generate some income, but that hasn’t happened yet. Still, I have found that my writing has improved, which is what I wanted. I also wanted to help writers with their crafts. I am still trying to build that community.

Building community does take time. With our book and workbook Transformational Blogging, Steve Woods and I will be teaching the skills of building community faster. I have a post coming out this week with 10 quick tips. Ultimately, you and I have done a couple of them already. Commented on each other’s posts and you have been featured in one of my posts, http://wp.me/p7tP3I-ah. Those are two of the best ways to begin to build community. 🙂 Hang in there, Susan, your community will grow, and then the income will follow. 🙂

It hasn’t really changed my life, except to make it more complicated. I am pretty overscheduled, and I find that I can’t write a worthwhile post in an hour. Some people can. I can’t. So my blogging has taken a back seat to my other writing. I have met a couple of my blogging friends, something I’ve enjoyed immensely. And now that I think about it, I feel much more strongly about Brexit, Scotland, and the EU because of my blogging buddies who live in various parts of Europe. Traveling there as a tourist is one thing, but having friends whose lives are changing because of political decisions and civil unrest makes one truly aware of how closely connected we all are.

My name is Corey and I am academic leave for my PhD. I got injured and couldn’t finish the semester. I thought since I journaled quite frequently everyday, as well as wrote academically for about four hours everyday, blogging would be a good fit. I find my writing has suffered quite a bit. I post a blog on my journey of anorexia and also have another op-ed sort of blog. It has been very surprising I don’t think I make a decent blogger. I thought I would sharpen my writing skills and respond more creatively to prompts. It hasn’t happened quite that way, I am going to finish my blog on my anorexia I have a publisher who is interested. So in that regard I am getting my story out other than that I am a tad disappointed in myself. I have taken a great interest in the photography challenges on Friday. I seemed to have unexpectedly found my niche. Thank you poising these thoughtful questions!
