Free Grammarly Service

Oh NO! My worst nightmare!

This service boosts my morale. I had no idea I wrote so many words. I’m even pleased about the number of mistakes. I wonder if I’ll make fewer mistakes next week. 🙂 Follow-up note was that I improved 33%.

My first Grammarly Report

Is there a possible downside to this service?

I found out is there is. Grammarly (affiliate link) does not read your WordPress post titles. I made a huge mistake, which I have done before, and ignored spell checker because I thought I had it right. Have you ever done that?

A copy editor says that many writers do.

Free Grammarly Service

Hey, I’ve been writing it that way my whole life!

Gravatar. I’m going to bold that word. I’ve been mispronouncing it and therefore misspelling it every time I write it, which fortunately is not often. Now that I know, I STILL missed it – in my title, permalink, and in my tagline.

The problem with that is that it went out on FB, Twitter, LinkedIn and numerous other social media – incorrectly. This wastes a ton of time and makes me look bad.

Even though it doesn’t cure the initial bad display of my writing, I’ve thought of solutions.

  1. Step One: Compose your work entirely in Google Docs or Word. However, I do not think the free Grammarly service checks either of those platforms. (You can upgrade, though.)
  2. Step Two: Then paste the entire post, title and all into your WordPress “Add New Post” page. Grammarly (affiliate link) does check that work. (Just not the title!)
  3. Step Three: Cut the Title from the body of the post and paste it into the title section.
  4. Assuming that you’ve already posted a bad post, this is like digging out a bullet with no Novocaine. Delete the post. You can not correct it. Even if you correct it in WordPress that awful title remains on your timeline for everyone to see how unprofessional dumb you are. Hit Delete! No matter how many people liked it already.
  5. Correct it in WordPress. Change the permalink, tagline, and title – don’t forget! Delete the title from the body of your post and reschedule it!
  6. If that does not work – and it did not for me, then copy and paste the words and pictures from WordPress into a new post, Cut and paste the title, and publish it. That worked for me.

Maybe you have other solutions. Please share them! Someone will love you for it!

By the way, do you like my memes?

  1. It wouldn’t be any use to me because I use Australian spelling, which uses “s” where Americans use “z”. It would be correcting me constantly. I proofread over and over.

  2. I make these kinds of mistakes as well, Marsha (I think we all do) 😉 I use the ‘read out loud’ feature in Word before I send anything now (apart from my comments on blogs which, when I look back, are usually full of typos) 😀

  3. I have no problem when changing the title of a new post Marsha as I use the old WP Posts/Add New. Rewrite the title, then click Edit under the title, delete old title and copy in the exact new title words. Easy ! 😀 ❤

Hi, I'm Marsha Ingrao, a retired educator and wife of a retired realtor. My all-consuming hobby is blogging and it has changed my life. My friends live all over the world. In November 2020, we sold everything and retired to the mile-high desert of Prescott, AZ. We live less than five miles from the Granite Dells, four lakes, and hundreds of trails with our dog, Kalev, and two cats, Moji and Nutter Butter. Vince's sister came with us and lives close by. Every day is a new adventure.
