You probably heard your grandparents say, “Every day just waking up is an adventure.”  It’s true.  Each day is what we make it, and adventure arrives in ordinary packages.  So think about the adventures that await you as you get out of bed.

Adventure 2

Transportation allows us to seek adventure.  It might by boat, plane, or rail.  We may expect our adventure to start happening once we get where we are going.

Adventure 3

Sometimes just getting to the location is the adventure.  While I was driving in my car on the way to Oakland this weekend for an adventurous CCSS meeting,  I was not 5 minutes from my house when adventure popped up out of no where.   I was driving down a two lane state highway going 60 miles an hour (I know! I know!) when the car in front of me slowed, and moved to the right shoulder.   Staring me in the face, a car going the other direction raced towards me driving at least as fast as I was.  My heart beat faster than normal as I quickly pulled over as far as I could.  My tires skidded in the dirt.  Fortunately the car heading toward us must have finished sending his text, and realized the error of his way.  My adventure ended safely when the wanderer jerked back into his own lane !

Adventure1

This driver and his horse brave the hazards on the road with little protection but this little red sign on the back of the wagon as they drive the windy back roads and narrow town streets of Pennsylvania.

Adventure4

Sometimes the adventure lies in chance meetings.  Hal and I walked up a rustic street in New Castle, DE admiring the old houses, when out walked this gentleman.  I asked him if he owned the house.  As it turned out he owned half the town, and had lots to tell us.  It was a mini history lesson and a great adventure.

Don't bother me, Mom. I'm dreaming of my next adventure."
Don’t bother me, Mom. I’m dreaming of my next adventure.”

Adventure is everywhere around you, but mostly it is in your attitude about life, and your ability to relay a sense of excitement.  Get up.  Find your adventure, and tell us about it .  Read about more adventures by clicking the icon below.

An amazing adventure. I agree, everywhere there is an adventure waiting for the taking. It’s all up to us to get them. Thanks for a wonderful post. All the best to you and your family.

Thank you so much. My post is the kind of post you write when you can’t really define most of your actions as adventuresome! Yours were truly an adventure.

Well I am glad you are okay!!! I hate the texting and driving thing with a passion. (It’s the cause of my knee surgery and totaled vehicle….and I wasn’t the one texting!!! 🙂 ) But you are so right….adventure is always there….good and bad….just waiting for us to LOOK UP! 🙂

I’m so sorry about your accident. That’s awful! Glad you are still with us! I know if this guy hadn’t moved back home to his correct lane, there wasn’t much I could have done! Life is a gift. 🙂

So frightening for you!!! And I’m a tough one…. plus now I have a reason I can’t jog besides “it’s too hot out”. 🙂 You stay safe, friend♡♥♡

I would use any excuse I could think of not to jog. I love to walk, but do NOT make me run! 🙂

What trepidation felt reading about your perilous encounter on the road. I am so grateful you were unscathed! I am often reminded just how friable life can be and how swiftly it can be removed, meself. Plenty of near-misses.

I remember one late night Sir and I were driving. Well, not both of us were driving the same car at once. Sir was at the helm and I was twittering away at him. Er…I mean chattering, I suppose I should say. I was not sending him twitter messages. Hard to keep up with all this technology invading the language…Anyhow, we were about to turn onto the highway, and for some reason, both of us felt a queer sensation that we should stop and wait a moment. It was late, and luckily no one was behind us, so Sir paused the vehicle. Sure enough two headlights came barreling toward us down the ramp, some poor goon going the wrong way! I guess the driver noticed when he became blinded by our own headlights as the car swiveled and went down the other side where yielders would turn in, and soon vanished. We continued on.

Superb post and I was especially captivated by your closing. Beautifully-written and loved the photos as well. I would have been in heaven trotting about with the sudden historian who came bubbling forth to give you a fine tour. I once had a somewhat similar experience, er…well perhaps not that similar really…

    I don’t know how I get into these things…

I was out walking, of course.

I had me camera with me, and as it turned out, Thome, my walking-friend, happened to be with me this time. We were ambling about in a small historical part of town, gawping at the gorgeous colonial, classic “Southern” houses draped in Spanish moss with white porches and white rocking chairs and brick chimneys dating back to the late nineteenth century. Well, darkness was descending and since there were signs posted everywhere warning that people were in the habit of ringing the police at the sight of ghoulish-looking strangers prowling the neighbourhood, I decided we should walk along the main-road and abandon the blissfully quiet and peaceful neighbourhood on our way back to the car. Well, the main road was bawling obnoxiously, cars whizzing by and sucking us into the street and tossing us about, horns caterwauling and sirens warbling. A nice side-road back into the dear old historical neighbourhood beckoned. We suddenly found ourselves upon it. And that is when our “historian” appeared. I am certain I told you about this fellow. He was a strapping lad wearing a little pink cardigan and was clearly…inebriated via quite a lot of cold medicine and who knows what else…he informed us about his boyhood days growing up in the old neighbourhood, that he lived in one of the houses and began telling me that he would love to take me (excluding walking-friend Thome, I must note) on a photo-taking tour of the grand houses. An old grandfatherly man with a cavernous face and very thick glasses in suspenders and brown pants wheezed back and forth in a rocker, shimmering through the darkness, observing the spectacle and assured us that he was indeed an “old pal” of the pink-cardi-wearing lad. I have no idea how we managed to trot out of there unscathed, but somehow it was managed…

    Anyhow superb reading as always!

P.S. Hope the meeting went very well indeed, by the way!

You could rework this sentence: My adventure ended safely when the wanderer jerked back into his own lane !
thus: “My adventure ended safely when the jerk wandered back into his own lane.”

I lost all my documents (but I had most of my stories on disk) so I’ve got to go through the news stories now and write them again – ouch!

What a bummer! I live in dread of that! I store things all over, but they don’t automatically sync everywhere. So they are in various stages of correct! 🙂

EEK! That adventure on the 2 lane highway could have had a nasty ending. When will people learn not to text and drive?

It really could have. I don’t know for sure that’s what was going on, Yvonne, but it’s just a guess. He could have just been trying to find his map on the floor. Who knows? I was one lucky lady! 🙂

It’s easy to forget sometimes that we should make the most of every day as it comes. That’s what I love about Manny. He takes every adventure that comes his way and enjoys it with gusto!
