Focus. This week’s challenge is inspired by Matthew George’s post on focus, in which he introduced us to the basics of depth of field and aperture. He explained what an image with a shallow depth of field looks like (or conversely, a photo with a greater depth of field), and how the aperture setting on your camera affects it.

I didn’t accomplish this with aperture, but the lighting blurred the background for me somewhat.

Another issue of focus occurs when one member of the pose does not really want to be there.  Then you have a focus problem.

Want to be my buddy?
Want to be my buddy?

Now I am stretching myself to find something that meets the bill.  This was taken this spring at the Woodlake Botanical Gardens.  Flowers are especially good at posing like this.

Cotton can do it, too.

Like a whirlpool, it never ends.
Like a whirlpool, it never ends.

Even Manny likes to pose best when I blur the background.  Oops, what went wrong?  Manny’s not happy about this!  🙂

Whew, that’s better!

What absolutely superb close-up shots! I particularly like the one of the teddy looking out wistfully at the marina. What would the teddy be thinking of ?

Oh, he would tell you at any second you ask him! He wanted me to take him out on a boat that day. We went to see them building a reproduction of an old Spanish sailing boat instead, and he accidently got his head caught in a practice noose. ops! 🙂 He got out ok, though!

What a marvelous post indeed, too beautiful dear friend. Depth of field is certainly a favourite with me.

I must corn-fess that when I got to the “want to be my buddy?” caption I was suddenly converted into a disturbing kind of chortle-machine that quite literally rattled the ancient creaking timbers of this wind-lashed, paint-peeling olde sea-side ship- I mean, er, shack, rather- nearly to saw-dust. I suppose I wasn’t expecting it. You always get me with those budding jokes…every blasted time.

Hope you enjoy an absolutely scintillating week-end dear lass, love to you and V and to all the wee creatures and darling inanimates that abound all about,

Hahaha yes, I hardly write about the animates. The poor cats are ignored completely. They practically beg us for attention every time we go outside they come and lounge by our chairs. They won’t come near the pool, though, and neither will Kalev. I’ve been taking her in more, though because she just lies in the sun and gets hot. I have to hold her so that only the tip of her tail touches the water. Eventually I can get her to stay with me until I get up to her chest, as she wraps her front paws around my neck and holds on for dear life as I walk around the shallow end of the pool. She will sit quietly with me on the step, but when I put her down, in about shoulder height of water for her – probably 6 inches of water, she will wade over to the edge and jump out and shake all over us. 🙂

There – an update on the animates. Vince is fine, too. Still hates his picture taken. Did you see my cute kid pictures on my fan page? Adorable animates, I think! 🙂

I posted some pictures of my animates on FB. Did you see them? Actually it was just Kalev and my friend’s daughter, Chloe. They were both very animate! 🙂

Manny left with Ute yesterday evening for England and the both arrived safely. Of course I will miss them both; Manny always in trouble or up to something and Ute the perfect guest. Ute will have her hands full with Manny for a couple of weeks. So quiet here today. xox

It had to be a lot of fun with Ute and the bears, of course. I bet it is so quiet. I can almost hear it from here. 😦 xox
