Adventures of Marsha Not Manny

Manny has been too busy to write from Spain this week, and I have been too busy to even tell you all about it.

Manny's not known to be a good listener, but Maybe Ralph has taught him some new tricks.

On Thursday I headed down to Los Angeles to stay with my friend Elane Geller.  We had a marvelous during my two-day stay including a trip to the Grounding School where many famous stand up comedians trained to launch their careers.  My showbiz favorite is 13 year-old Addison, who attended a 5 day improv camp this week.  Participants had to be 13, and he was the youngest, and the tallest one in camp.

The audience participation made this an especially fun night especially when the girls of the group made up an improv dance for the Banana Slug Cheerleaders which included a sluicing across the stage on their bellies.  The audience contributed made-up words to the spelling bee, pronounced by a “Russian accented” 15 year-old word pronouncer.  She struggled over my word Grounding School spelled backwards.  Oddly, the contestants spelled all the words incorrectly, but with great flourish.

We couldn’t have had a more exciting place to meet than the Exhibit building of Air Force I at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.

The reason for my trip south this time was business, a Confab, a collaboration of social studies leaders from across California, who assembled at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library on August 16, 2013.  You can find all my pictures on the CCSS Fan Page.  https://www.facebook.com/California.Council.Social.Studies.

If you haven’t been there before, this is the month to go.  Until September 30 you can see over 250 original artifacts in the most unique exhibit about President Abraham Lincoln that has ever been assembled.  It took two years for the talented curator, Andrew J. Wulf, Ph.D., to build the exhibit, and at the end of the exhibit the artifacts return to their twenty-five donors.  The sets that were built especially for the film, Lincoln, used to house Sally Field (Mary Todd Lincoln), Daniel Day-Lewis (Abraham Lincoln), and son, Tad, played by Gulliver McGrath.  Being a curator is more difficult than you can imagine.  Our hero, Dr. Wulf, endured an onslaught of hate mail as he created this wonderful exhibit.  I guess some folks didn’t like Lincoln either.

SFW Book Signing_001

On the way home from Los Angeles,  I stopped in Bakersfield at a book signing at Russo’s Bookstore.  My friend Chris Brewer assisted two women in writing a book about his great-great grandfather, Colonel Baker, titled, Colonel Baker’s Field.  I found out that one of the authors is hosting the writers’ conference I’m attending at the coast in September.

Judy, on the right, co-authored the book, and told me what classes to take at the conference. Huzzah, I had already chosen the best ones.

Talk about a small world!  How small has your world been this week?

So that was my weekend in the middle of the week. How was your week or weekend?  Did you travel or stay home?  Did you eat too many taco chips and gain an unwanted pound or three?

  1. A very interesting post Marsha.
Manny is resting as he knows Ute is coming next Saturday with Danny and he knows that he must conserve his energy for he is going to clamber all over Ute for hours on end. He loves her so much even more than Fanny. Uh oh. I shouldn’t have said that as Fanny is really upset now. Bang goes my peaceful Sunday 😉 Ralph xox 😀

    • I’m sorry, Ralph. When are you ever going to learn that you can’t talk about how much a bear loves someone else in front of another female bear that loves him? You will be lucky to come out of this alive. Is love about comparing how MUCH someone loves one person over another or about expressing what they love about each person? So let’s think this through, “What are you going to say or do to diffuse the situation?” I don’t want to open my computer tomorrow and see on the news that Ralph has been mangled by a mad female teddy bear! 🙂 Mama Bear, Marsha xox

      • Fanny is okay now as she has just seen Ute’s Danny and is smitten by his looks. She has told me but not Manny and has asked me to break the news to him. No way !! 😉

  2. Nothing exciting here – watched 3 football games & my favorite teams lost each & every one. But at least they were close games so it was kind of exciting.

      • I don’t bet on football. It was kind of disheartening, but I really like Canadian football so it was my suggestion to watch the third game even though we didn’t have a team playing.

        • So the last one, you could have changed your loyalty, and voila – a winning game! It’s all perspective, Benze. :)I’d say go for the winner and celebrate! Where’s the ice cream?

    • I got up because I couldn’t sleep at 4:00 a.m. Keep in mind that I am retired, so if I need a nap mid-day, I take one. I read somewhere that is how your body is supposed to work. Sleep when you are tired, work when you aren’t. I would say I am more driven than anything. I don’t think I do enough. I get mad at my husband because he works harder than I do, and then I feel guilty! I am very HARD to live with! 🙂 But, in my own humble defense, I AM loveable! 🙂 xoxox

Hi, I'm Marsha Ingrao, a retired educator and wife of a retired realtor. My all-consuming hobby is blogging and it has changed my life. My friends live all over the world. In November 2020, we sold everything and retired to the mile-high desert of Prescott, AZ. We live less than five miles from the Granite Dells, four lakes, and hundreds of trails with our dog, Kalev, and two cats, Moji and Nutter Butter. Vince's sister came with us and lives close by. Every day is a new adventure.
