Weekly Photo Challenge: Foreshadow

Wednesday is two days before the WordPress challenge changes, so I’d better get busy.  Nobody wants to go to the U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame in Davis, California and leave the prize display in pieces.  Why they told us we could all take turns riding the antique bicycle, I can’t imagine.  Something must have foreshadowed that this might happen.  Look at how delicately thin the wheels are.  Even stabilized on a stand, it looked delicate.

Challenge Foreshadow06Justin got on the same way the rest of us did, only maybe slightly more gracefully.  “One foot is placed on a peg above the back wheel. The rider grasps the handlebar, scoots and lifts himself into the saddle.[26]”  Wikipedia

Challenge Foreshadow02Taking headers off the high-riders commonly occurred in the 1890s when the Penny-Farthing was in its heyday.  But Justin watched most of us maneuver the “ordinary” machine without a single misstep.  So he got on unsuspecting any danger.

Challenge Foreshadow03We could see the foreshadowing of disaster as he confidently swung his legs.

Challenge Foreshadow05

Whee, at this point WE knew….

Challenge Foreshadow01

I’m not sure how he got off in one piece, and he wasn’t sure what went wrong, but he was sure something had.

New to The Daily Post? Whether you’re a beginner or a professional, you’re invited to get involved in our Weekly Photo Challenge. Everyone is welcome to participate, even if your blog isn’t about photography.

Here’s how it works:

1. Each week, we’ll provide a theme for creative inspiration. You take photographs based on your interpretation of the theme, and post them on your blog (a new post!) anytime before the following Friday when the next photo theme will be announced.

2. To make it easy for others to check out your photos, title your blog post “Weekly Photo Challenge: (theme of the week)” and be sure to use the “postaday″ tag.

3. Subscribe to The Daily Post so that you don’t miss out on weekly challenge announcements. Sign up via the email subscription link in the sidebar or RSS.

  1. Scary ride, that is. I wobble on the new-fangled “safety bicycle” that’s been out a few years, or decades, or century!! Great post.

    • Thanks, Sir. I bet you exaggerate about your wobbliness. 🙂 I see foreshadowed in your future a video of you riding your safety bicycle! 🙂 hehehe Did I just plant that idea in Bab’s head???? hehehehe

      • You absolutely HAVE!!

P.S. Fantastic post!! Glad he emerged unharmed from the ordeal. Such a fate would have been similar, perhaps farm more sinister and disastrous, had I been there that day! Oh dear…the horror to imagine.

        Just loved this. Excellent!!!

        • Really Autty, it was pretty safe – even for you! And I would have insisted that you wear a helmet! Justin took his legs off the pedals and just coasted. Little did he know that his front and back wheels were not moving in the same directions! 🙂

          • An excellent mode of transportation, all the same. I wouldn’t mind really trying to ride one! Har har!!

Sir and I just returned from an electric car meet organized by Ideas. It was too groovy. Another splendid form of transportation. There were Volts, Leafs, and very darling Teslas present- and then I was in heaven when I found myself draped over an electric motorbike….it was STUPENDOUS! The owner was very proud. I obtained some footage of him driving off at the end of the event- it was dark but headlights appeared and lit him right up. Utopia. Sir and I got to crawl around in the cars too. It was just delightful.

            Cheers!!

          • Aye!!! ARG sounds like an exquisite plan! I look forward to photos of you and your future EM. Fabulous!! I must admit that it was oh so tempting to bump the electric motorbike rider off, hop on, and hum away silently into the night…oh yes…

Every day is a new adventure.
