I have decided that picking most fruits and vegetables is best done by children who love to play games.  I think that fruits and vegetables get their jollies by playing hide-and-go-seek with humans.  You know they are ripe.  There are a few tantalizing veggies peeking out behind their leafy clothing.

Think there are any more tomatoes in there?

Green beens are the worst.  I went out yesterday.  I picked all the beans I saw that were ripe.  I got quite a few, but to look at the plants, there were only little bitty beans.  You think – mistakenly – they’re not ready yet.

How many beans can you see? Would you pick them or throw them back?
How many beans can you see? Would you pick them or throw them back?

What I found out is that you can’t let them be modest.  You’ve just got to pull their leafy clothes away from them.  Mothers that are used to changing diapers are accustomed to that.  They just whip off those clothes, get the job done, and bingo, the kid’s back in business, and Mom is on her way to the next chore.  No pretend modesty,

But back to beans.  I guess I was too prissy the first, second and third picking.  After just picking beans two days ago, look what I found – the ones I missed – LAST WEEK!

They played hide and go seek long enough to be bean seeds.

And look who else wanted my beans!

"I'll find those sneaky beans!"
“I’ll find those sneaky beans!”

I kept him from getting some of them as you can see below.

See you tomorrow.  I got a great question from Benzeknees.  Thanks so much for asking!

Oh yummy! I love blueberries, and we haven’t got any in the shops here. 😦 That bug-eyed Gogga looks really scary.

Your garden looks lovely and is much further along than those in Ohio.

We start a lot sooner! I think we planted tomato plants in March. The beans are from seeds, though. Vince really got into gardening this year, or, believe me, it wouldn’t look like that! He decorates! 🙂 Marsha 🙂

Your beans are like our zucchinis. One day they’re tiny and the next day they have exploded and they’re huge.

Our zucchinis are like that, too. Vince wouldn’t even plant them this year. We did plant cucumbers, and same thing, only they were bitter. We planted pickling cucumbers! blaaaaah Forgive me for not writing back to your lovely email yet. I had a busy day yesterday! 🙂 Lots of love 🙂

Yeah! How long are your holidays? Do you have snow and bad weather?

Two weeks, no snow, clear blue skies and lots of sunshine, but a chilly wind. Today the maximum temperature will be 14, which is about 60 for you. brrrrr The last time it snowed here was 1994 and it was more like sleet than snow and only lasted for a few minutes. It has to get really cold for that to happen. We don’t do cold well.

Sixty degrees is not very cold! Our temperature here today is only 77. In a few weeks it will be around 100-110. I like it up to about 90.

These are the types of things that make me miss living on a farm–or anywhere that has enough ground to grow crops. Love the photos! Maybe you should start your own mini CSA! :o)

Look at your fantastic harvest … fantastic. Blueberries already – and on the same time as strawberries, over here the blueberries are not ready until beginning of August. What a fantastic gallery you have created, but you should have lighten up your photos a bit, especially the blueberries and plums.

You also have to think about that you have the sun in your back when you take photos. Good luck.

Thanks! I was inside, so I wasn’t thinking about that! Outside I’d have to go out at a different time because the sun was directly overhead, and the space is too small to move around much! 🙂

The best time photos is in the afternoon or in the morning. You get an automatic softness then to your shots.

Thanks. I didn’t grow those, but my friend has a friend who grows organic blueberries. This is an agricultural place, and that is their crop. They were so nice. they came out and visited with us because one of the ladies with me was a good friend. She helped me pick for a few minutes as we talked. I had never picked them before. They are quite easy to pick. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by. 🙂
