If you haven’t been to http://jakesprinters.wordpress.com/2012/11/17/sunday-post-architecture/#comments , and you like photography, and you need ideas for a short posts, Jake is your guy. ย I love this because even as amateur photographers everyone usually has tons of pictures that sit unseen by anyone but a file folder. ย This is a reason to open up those dusty folders, and pick out our best work.

Seattle came to its own during the 1962 Worlds Fair, and even today, 50 years later, the Space Needle dominates the cityscape.

The Space Needle still towers over Seattle skyscrapers to reign king.

Alien influence reigned supreme in the post-Roswell, New Mexico 1960s after aliens visitedย inย 1947. ย They introduced everything round into architecture. ย Although the Space Needle is still grounded, it resembles a giant flying saucer, complete with windows all the way around. ย The top-rated restaurant makes one revolution per hour. ย If you go for dinner check to make sure your credit card is NOT maxed out before enter the man-operated elevator.

According to Wiki, the Needle was the tallest building west of the Mississippi when it first peeped its head out. ย It was built to withstand high winds, and you will definitely feel them if you go outside on the walk around the observation deck at about 500 feet above the street. ย But don’t worry. ย You are safe from structural calamity up to a gust of 201 mph. ย Ordinary gusts may be too great for your to keep a hold on your camera as you steady yourself against the ledge to get a great picture.

By the way I did not remove any of the color from this photograph which I took from my 15 story hotel room about a mile away from the Needle.

Here are some other challenges that I liked.

Hereโ€™s how the weekly photo Competition works:

1. Each week, weโ€™ll provide a theme for creative inspiration. Show the world based on your interpretation what you have in mind for the theme, and post them on your blog anytime before the following Sunday when the next photo theme will be announced.

2. Subscribe to jakesprinter so that you donโ€™t miss out on weekly challenge announcements. Sign up via the email subscription link in the sidebar or RSS.

Most excellent!! I never noticed how much the SN really does resemble a needle. Fantastic! I have gone meandering up to the tops of light-houses, and you may guess how I’d love to perch on the crown of a wind-turbine, but to be that high, atop the SN would be crackling good fun. Haha, aye, no desaturation needed in that wonderful noir gloom! Ah…so many classics come to mind. Cheers, wonderful architectural study, too stupendous indeed!!

Welcome back Auty. I’d missed your comments for the last few days. I just posted a post with some pictures I took because I thought, “Auty needs to see these!” Take a peek.

I hadn’t thought of the needle as being a needle, but I felt like a microscopic thread up there in its eye! I don’t think your friend and family would let you out on the ledge – too windy!!!! I didn’t go out either!

Hello dearie! Thankee, I’ve missed blog-land, indeed. I’m still catching up on your posts, fret not, you’ll be receiving more rambling comments in the coming day. (oh dear)

Yes, a little ol’ grannie like me might just go toppling over in that wind out there, oh dear!

P.S. You may or may not get a “kick” out of my new “gravatar” image ๐Ÿ˜‰ It’s a new look that I doubt will attract many future authorities or Marlins har har.

        Cheers!!

The days of the conference were wonderful. Monday was a deluge. I still love it, and seeing friends was definitely worth the effort.
