Weekly Photo Challenge: Silhouette

SILHOUETTE. The proper definition of a silhouette is “the outline of a body viewed as circumscribing a mass.”  http://dailypost.wordpress.com/2012/10/19/weekly-photo-challenge-silhouette/

Sometimes I accidentally produce pictures that are silhouettes, and these are some I loved.  I used the one of me all summer as my profile picture.

At the Bicycle Museum in Davis, California, June 2012

I had a great time taking everyone’s pictures, and all of a sudden it struck me that if I stood on the other side of them I could get better photos!

I’m glad no one was photographing me getting on. It was not a graceful picture!

Even with no facial expressions showing you can also see that this 1890s bicycle was not easy to mount!

I probably shot half of them before the light went off in my head instead of behind my subjects!

Slow down, Justin. You’re gonna…..

And they were having so much fun posing!

CRASH!!!

And then the light hit, and the rest of the photos were normal.

But they all had fun!  And the bicycle survived the crash, and so did Justin.

So I hope you enjoy my silly silhouettes.  Let me know what you think – silhouettes better or good lighting better?

  2. Ooooo I love silhouette photography! And I have been there, taking photos with people posing, then realising it would turn out so much better from such and such angle with better lighting in the middler or more often, after the shoot XD, so I was just laughing when I read that. I think that one of you would make a fascinating black and white, more contrasted silhouette photo, could even get it in front of some inventive background. The ones in better lighting are fun too. As always, your posts make me smile incessantly!! Ta la,

  3. Smiling is what I was doing and laughing out loud as I read your comments!!! You are so much fun! I always have to look up words in every comment, and I come out laughing even harder because you use the words so correctly! Thank goodiness for online dictionaries!!! I have a new blog problem this morning. I can’t reply on my notifications page, so I have to go back to the original article, and post my comments there. I am unbelievable motivated to communicate with my new friends!!!!! 🙂

In November 2020, we sold everything and retired to the mile-high desert of Prescott, AZ. We live less than five miles from the Granite Dells, four lakes, and hundreds of trails with our dog, Kalev, and two cats, Moji and Nutter Butter. Vince's sister came with us and lives close by. Every day is a new adventure.
