Big Bird has popped up everywhere since last night.  Apparently he’s been flying all over protesting the presidential debate.  This was my experiment for today.  Big Birds are plentiful around here, and we had a wake of vultures the other day that must have numbered around 20.  They circled around for just long enough for me to grab my camera, then they split up.  I used 70-300 lens.

Then I cropped the picture.  Then I turned to the woodpeckers sitting merrily chirping on the high wire.  They get really good long distance rates.

Hope these pictures get you soaring for the day.

  1. Very nice, Marsha. I have a very hard time catching a shot of a bird in flight.

  2. They ARE appearing visibly nowadays. This morning we watched a hawk for a good ten minutes standing on a fire hydrant. Was so cool to look at it.
    Nice catch!

      1. Er … I walked to my car to grab my camera, but it already flew when I returned. It’s okay. It’s was an awesome sight, anyhow.

By the way, ever consider, or do you have macro 55-250mm? It’s cheap, getting cheaper through time actually, and highly effective. I practically put a dollar or two a day to my saving to get it. It became my first choice ever since.
